You know whats wierd, i went to my lfs yesterday and i saw the quiet one 1200 pump. But the flow chart on the box says that at a 4 foot head, it will only pump 150. But then today, i looked online and on two diff websites, it says that the pump at a 4 ft head will pump ~200gph.

What do you think is right? Do you think that the flow chart on the box was the one for if the pump was used dry? Like outside of water?

Oh yeah, i went yesterday and bought a 10 ft 1'' pvc pipe, one ball valve, a tee, and 6 90 elbows. Is it ok if i assemble the whole thing without glueing (Clear pvc cement is ok for glueing right?), post it on here someone check if it works? The thing is, the whole thing will be about 20 inches tall and i do not have a container that is tall enough to test it.

thanks

Oh ok, so at a 4 ft head height, it does pump ~200 gph^^ the one on the box at the store was probably the dry use flow chart.

actually, my dad and i cemented it already. When we did the u on the inside of the tank, we accidentaly did it crooked so thank goodness we had a connector part.
On the checkvalve, all we did was drill a hole about the size of the thing, wrap the valve in plumbers tape, and stuff it in. I hope no air goes inside lol. If so, its time to wipe out the hot glue gun :3

Hm, now, we need to go buy a trashcan to test it on lol. I dont have any containers to hold a 20 inch one. Another good thing some raccon bit through our old trashcan.

Drill the hole for the valve so that you have a very snug fit, then glue (or at least silicone) it in.

Don't use a hot glue gun for anything in an aquarium. That glue isn't designed for contact with water.

I'm trying to figure out a way to do an air removal thing without the valve. Valves fail, leak around the connection, etc., so I want to do something that is failsafe.

hm, well what we did was drill a hold slightly smaller than it, wrap the valve in plumbers tape, and cram it in.

It works too. I filled up a new trashcan and when the water level was above the intake, i filled the u on the outside with water. Then i sucked on the valve until all the air was out. There was so much water O.O

I then let it flow out below the intake (to imitate a power outage) and when i poured more water in, the thing started flowing again.

Now, we just have to get a pump. We tried the quiet one 1200 but it was to weak for the 4 ft head height. Also, i am going to use a one way valve and so that also restricts the water pump. The reason why im using the valve is because i am going to make the outake go below the water so if there is a power outtage, the pump wont backfire and pull out all the water...

We are probably thinking of getting a quiet one 3000 but since with a 4 ft head height, it will be ~600gph, My dad and i might have to make another overflow. Just curious, what is the max output a 3/4 inch pvc pipe can handle? we have a bunch of those on hand

Hurmph! Two identical overflows on the 110 and one runs fine and the other sucks a lot of air. I sealed around the check valves three times to make sure I didn't miss any spots. I'm just not seeing the problem. I have the one that sucks a lot of air hooked up to an Aqualifter now and it seems the end of air is nowhere in sight. I tested the Aqualifter on the one that works well and it sucks water. Any ideas?
