well didnt get the sump in..... Woman issues. Anyhow, the sump is drilled at the bottom for a 3/4 bulkhead, which is capped right now, I am thinking i will have a sponge down there anyhow, so i need to get it drilled a little higher, and for a larger bulkhead that came with the oceanic setup.

It will provide a larger drain, which will mainly be the backup, should something go wrong.

And since i didnt get that done esterday when i wanted, i will now probably not get it done until the 29th.

BTW the tank should be here by then as well. And i think everything else i need and have ordered, will be here within the week.

So i will have a lot to do when I get done playing soldier again.

man am i ready for some down time.

did some work on background. Started with the roots. I siliconed 2 2"pieces of foam together. should not have not that. would have been better to use toothpics r something else to hold it until i was done. Reason being, the foamshaped nicely, the silicone left a noticable area, that required alot of trim work.

I cut it with a steak knife heated with torch.

I made two patterns 1 and 2.

i laid each out on the 4" blocks, on both sides, and cut them out.

then i used just pattern 1 and liad it out on both sides of each of the cut blocks.

cut that out, and used knife heated to make it more rounded.

took torch over entire roots to blend cuts and add character.

next step will be covering with waterproofer i got.

also i uploaded all my pics to photobucket, you can check them out here

I don't know how I missed this thread. Awesome project! If you still want to stock natives I'll be glad to help you get some. I'm down in Clarksville. Just let me know when you're ready for them!

got to figure out how many roots i want. Tank is only 18" stump will be 4-6". There will be 2 stumps hiding pipes. my initial plan was 1 stump 2 roots, but i changed to 2 stump, but thinkin 2 roots per would be crowded. however i think 1 root each would look loacking

How close will the stumps be to one another? The roots of trees growing along streambanks often fuse together. You can also create a more balanced appearance without taking up a lot of space by making it look as though a root or two has broken off; just build up a little stub and make the "broken" surface a different color from the rest.
