hey everyone need id on this gar. was sold to me as a spotted gar, just wanted to make sure because ive heard alot that spotted and florida can get mixed up quite easily. also i can find hardly any info on distinguishing them when they are juveniles so would love some help with telling the difference, thanks

more generalized answer is that SPGs are just not in the hobby, particularly overseas hobby. 99.9% of the time you see a fish like this in the US it is a FLG. there are some subtle differences you can examine on the individual fish, but these are dangerous to the fish itself and therefore we don't recommend them. knowing the origin/locality of the fish also helps, but if it is coming through the pet trade and looks like that, it's a Florida gar. care for both species is essentially the same, so other than for hardcore gar people FLG-SPG doesn't make a lot of difference--
