Glass shatters when it breaks while acrylic doesn't.
Only tempered glass shatters, plate glass does not...

And who ever said that acrylic is that panty waisted is wrong...it takes a considerable amount of ABUSE to scratch, and nothing associated with aquaria will damage it beyond repair...

when you scratch glass with your sand or gravel it is very difficult to remove those scratches...

...As in essentially impossible. A scratch on my glass looks just as hideous as the ones I had on my acrylic LOL

If you have sand substrate as do I, it is not anykind imposible...a bit of sand in the algae pad and you got scratches... My point is Acrylic can be buffed out alot easier...

i prefer acrylic to glass even tho it scratches easyer that scratch remover stuff actually works i doubted it at first. and glass seems to distort or magnify what was really inside, with my acrylics theres never really that green tint or reflection on it.but i also use glass as well i jus prefer acrylics

had a 300gal glass and the bottom back glass parted from the silicone seperating. what a mess. and dead fish had a buddy also that it happened too he moved and the tank was empty for a while he set it back up and two days later silicone dried out and i guess changed form and the tank glass seperated from the bottom. now i have acrylic if its done wright its easy to remove scratches. and the seams are stronger than the acrylic itself
