Help Me Poly Stock

Yes, my goal is to have a 180-220 with a bunch of polys and some more mellow cichlids. Polleni is my primary cichlid goal.

I think with how I'm doing it, starting with UJs and getting them larger, that I could add LJs when I get the big tank. My only problem is that then the Ropes couldn't live in the big tank most likely per Dr. B's experience and I think I agree. I would be really devastated to find one of my charming, beloved ropes in a LJ's mouth.

So doing an all UJ tank is tempting because they could stay, and I could add to their group.

But... I would LOVE at least a couple of LJs though. I don't know what to do.

I can always work on a secondary tank like a 90 gallon with ropes, and keep it heavily planted... then what else goes in there that is interesting?

I am watching you closely because we have similar fish likes. :)

(A fire eel is also a dream fish of mine, but not positive a 180 or 220 is big enough for life, or for how long. I know they can be with polys though.)

Hmm yeah I'm trying to figure out if it would work. I'd have two polleni, two severum, chocolate, two oligacanthus, maskoheros regani, possibly a female maskoheros argentea and whatever happens of my group of hets and crypts. Seems kind of full without the addition of polys.

In a 220? I'm not familiar with all of those guys so I'm not sure.

I'd also worry about the Polleni if they pair off, that's when they can supposedly get nasty (?). Or did you find evidence otherwise?

Yeah a 220-265 something like that. Probably a 265. I'm not too worried about spawning aggression with them. On the off chance that they do spawn I'll just keep an eye out on it, remove the eggs if I have to. It's a challenge to get them to spawn at all or so I'm told. I'm not too sure on Regani's max size but none of the fish get much bigger than 12" most less like 8-10"

I say try for as long as it lasts but may not work long term if the argentea decides she doesnt want tank mates it'll make mince meat out of the rest. Regani is no punk either

220 to 300 gal seems like a big tank but it really isnt. Another member has a 540 and still needs to remove trouble makers. Dont know if you remember the thread in the ca/sa a fee months ago about the 300 pearsei but i totally agree with those guys unless i add a bunch of cichlids to help spread aggression my current pearsei would eother kill or be killed if i added another cichlids

Can you keep severum in a 90? If so maybe I need to keep Sevs in with ropes in a 90. :)

Re: Polleni, I thought that I read that they can get very aggressive with each other, or with others when spawning. Or maybe it's more likely, which is why I have a single Polleni stuck in my mind. (Vs Severum which can be with buddies and often not cause problems.)

It really depends on the fish. Not too long ago someone was posting about their choc giving them an issue.

Argentea are probaly in a completely different league than the other fish mentioned. Ine member had his argentea absolutely shred a dovii
