Help Me Poly Stock

Edit: any other ones besides Severums? What about viejas?

It depends hetetospilus are easy going, heard syns are ok had zonatus that sort of left polys alone but wouldnt trust it long term, also an argentea that wouldnt tolerate anything the fish was perpetually pissed off and wasnt even an adult yet

I say try for as long as it lasts but may not work long term if the argentea decides she doesnt want tank mates it'll make mince meat out of the rest. Regani is no punk either

Yeah it's really just something I'm going to have to monitor. I mean my chocolate is super aggressive and he's only 3 or so inches. So far the Regani has been a total push over, I love that fish. Who knows if the female Argentea is going to be a terrorist or not, so far it hasn't but I don't know, really sick of aggression in tanks. Seriously considering selling all the aggressive guys I got. I'd give them away if I knew someone would take care of them. Too bad @magpie isn't ready for a Polleni, I have one that was beating on my female really badly so he's with the argentea.

Can you keep severum in a 90? If so maybe I need to keep Sevs in with ropes in a 90. :)

Re: Polleni, I thought that I read that they can get very aggressive with each other, or with others when spawning. Or maybe it's more likely, which is why I have a single Polleni stuck in my mind. (Vs Severum which can be with buddies and often not cause problems.)

Generally speaking I think they would get on okay, I know I haven't kept ropes but they seem to be way faster than a rare aggressive severum

I did the same exact thing. For me i dont have the energy for CA comms. 1 cichlid per tank regatdless of the size.

Things are working in the 150 right now nut it wouldnt surprise me if issues start and the metae or other smaller hets get the boot. Only fish that is an absolute STAY os the female heterospilus. Im already regretting the whole mating thing

Yeah I'm with you, I'm going to sell my really aggressive stock. I just don't want to deal with it anymore. And I'm straight up just not interested in most of them right now. Might have a buyer lined up already.

I saw one of my sens do a death roll for the first time yesterday, after coming home being frustrated with my fish. I'm taking it as a sign, one of the coolest things I've "sen" in one of my aquariums.

Funny that we are talking about this. Last night another member and i were having the same exact convo. I love the new tank and the polys but am at the point where i feel less is more. The problem is polys are such great fish amd for the most part get along so its easy to keep buying. At this point after the few polys i have coming later today i am done regardless what other cool polys become available. Anymore added woukd mean soneone has to go.

Two tanks has always been my limit anymore and it gets un-enjoyable. Now i have the faranah lap putting on some size in the 75 gal and will keep thr new polys in there until wc time to ser if i coykd sneak everyone in without the ornate taking much notice. But if it werent for the female het id close down the 150 and have just the 1 tank. Giving a few more hets and the metae to a friend later today. Aaaaahhj rant over.

My main problem really is my hot water heater, I don't mind doing water changes but my hot water heater is such a pos that I can only do one water change per day. That's where all my recent fish stress is stemming from, I love my fish.

Its always something lol

I had an epiphany of what I want to do here, I knew the answer would come to me. I'm going to purchase the biggest tank I can, most likely a 265, and do a cichlid/poly tank. I've got to do right by the fish I already have and I really want more polys so it's win win. The hets aren't going to be big enough to go with my other cichlids for a year anyway. By the time they're ready to join their cichlid friends I'll have time to purchase another decent sized tank for the polys only. Any cichlid whose not a good community fish will be promptly removed.
