Help verifying if I got a Super Red (juvie, 6-7 inch)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just an update four months later, it’s about 8-9 inch now. Haven’t done any tanning, feeding MP and porpoise pellets, with the occasional frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. WC 10-15% every week. I can’t seem to lower the ph to 6-6.5 though, the tank has stabilized to 7.2 - 7.6. The scale rims look a lot more golden, but the light is throwing me off. Sometimes I feel the rims are pinkish gold. Towards the tail end some of the scales even have specks of purple. What do you guys think?
100% RTG. IMO they don't need tanning. Intensity of gold will come out with age and good care. White light or warmer white should make the gold stand out more especially when it's an adult with full colors.

I should get some of my money back then, paid a good 700$ for it. FML. Tbf it is pretty lol thanks brother

Update, my supplier has agreed to replace the fish with a proper SR, same size as this one. Shipment arrives March. Agreed to bring the chip reader. I’m happy and sad at the same time. Four months this guy was with me. Anyway thank you guys I really appreciate the insight. Will update soon!

First thing would be to read the chip and compare it to the cert.
From reading this thread, I understand that the chip was never inserted into the fish? If correct, then the chip really has no value in determining the type of fish this is. In any case, accidents happen. It is not in the interest of a reputable aro shop (as I think this one is) to cheat a customer. I wonder what the relationship is between the aro shop and the farm where the fish came from? Years ago I had a case where I helped a farm owner identify a crooked employee who was stealing SR's and replacing them with low grade rtg/hbrtg, all around time of chipping and export. So who knows? It could be an accident or it could be due to a crooked farm employee. Congratulations on resolving the issue!

Ah no well supplier said there was a chip inside, it came with a certificate. Just never got to verify with a reader. He says it’s probably bad genes, my guess is he tried to sneak a bigger sale in. Anyway as long as he’s replacing it with an SR I’m good.

The fish with a separate chip is from one of the guys in the thread, if I remember correctly it was too young to get tagged hence it wasn’t injected.

Yep that’s probably what happened, the ol switcheroo ahahah

Hopefully I get my moneys worth the next time around. I mean I trust this guy, sold me altums, 90% died unexplainably, he replaced them all (they are in the tank with the aro). So I still believe he will push through *fingers crossed*
