Kelly_Aquatics Kelly_Aquatics , is that a fish on the ice next to the CT bucket? What do you fish for through the ice?

Our area is known for walleye, but yesterday we caught lots of perch and saugers, no 'eyes. I also personally landed three burbot, which is more than I usually catch in a whole year. :)

That’s a frozen herring I was using for burbot. Lots of perch and pickerel aswell as saltwater fish like cod, hake, and sometimes dogsharks make it up river. Lake trout and burbot are around aswell but harder to find.

come out for some fishing; it'll be fun! :)
I'd love to come out to Canuckistan and do some fishing with you John. But I'd have to wear that many clothes to keep my wimpy blighty arse warm I wouldn't be able to move, never mind fish!

The only time i'd be happy is sat in front of your crackling log fire with a cup of tea and some choccy biscuits, and I can do that at home! lol.

Yes. Money well spent. We heat the whole house and don't spend a penny on fuel for it. All the wood we burn on it is free from work.

The only problem with wood burners in the UK now is that they are becoming more and more common due to the fuel crisis.

There are rumours going around that the government may get involved in nationwide "testing" of all wood burners for emissions, and I suspect the outcome of that may be to put some form of tax on them, that's what governments do, right?

Hopefully ours will be fine as it's a professionally fitted modern "clean" one. However, there are lots of older houses which have older more polluting ones, some still have the old open fires from yesteryear which will be very "dirty".

It will be interesting to see how it goes.

Looks like a nice wood-burner set-up, Esox; I'm curious as to whether or not you do your own chimney-sweeping? We have ours done once yearly by a professional service, at the insistence of my wife who apparently doesn't have complete faith in my DIY talents. I am secretly pleased; they do it entirely from the bottom, with a giant vacuum hose that snakes in from the truck, through an open window and into the stove itself. There is never a trace of dust or dirt that escapes into the house; they are done within 30 minutes, start to finish. Duke likes the father-and-son team of guys who do the work, and I have complete faith in Duke's ability to judge character. :)

In our previous house, we had a much more gently-sloped roof and I was up there every year clinging to the side of our giant brick chimney with the giant wire brush, and with a ridiculous Rube-Goldberg-esque plastic wrap around the stove itself to more-or-less sorta kinda capture most of the overspray. :)

I must get myself one of those little convection fans you have. Our stove has an electric fan, which I rarely use as it sounds like a jumbo jet landing in the yard. :)

Heavens above John, that is one job I leave well alone. We have it done professionally twice a year. If I did the chimney sweeping it would end up with me looking that these two loveable rogues, lol.

Yeah, I hear that. When I was doing the sweeping in Ontario, I was half expecting Mary Poppins to land next to me when I was up top.

I can see it now: me in full Dick Van Dyke attire, complete with coating of soot...a terrified umbrella-toting woman staring at me in shock...as I leveled an M1 at her and growled "Get off my roof!" in my best Clint Eastwood voice...

Now that is one thing I'd love to hear you do John. A canuckistanian impersonating Clint Eastwood in a cockney accent!!!!

You certainly couldn't be any worse than DVD's cockney speaking attempt in the film, lol.
