Same goes for me, I've always had a little interest in photography ever since middle school. And this year I needed a fine arts credit, so I'm currently taking a digital photography class (doesn't teach you how to take photos though, which was what I was looking for:irked:). Most of my shots are inspired by my fish though and when people need the use of my "fancy" camera. Lol.

The attraction in SA/CA cichlids? Size,personality,color and shape diversity,unpredictable temperaments, owner responsiveness and many more. Something I wont achieve with barbs but as you said "Each to their own.";)
