Tough decision time starting.

The dominant Hoga is pretty mean toward the other two. He really does not mess with the small red devils but the other two Hoga are chased and their side fins look a bit tattered. He does not show the dark red under the throat or dark stripes like the other two, in fact he is always a light pinkish with very faint lines.. It makes me wonder if the other two are showing stress colors. If I had another 75g set up, I think I would pull the dominant hoga out of the 300 for a bit and see which of the other two would show nicely and then decide who to rehome. I really wanted amphs with nuchal humps and the hoga will likely be less 'humpy' than the midas or the red devil. The red devil already shows a nice little hump coming in.

Im almost tempted to rehome all three hoga.... Have already decide to rehome the smallest Petsmart red devil and likely the 3 smallest midas. These four fish feel very runt like in the way they are growing.

Bummer that you may get rid of the Hoga, but I certainly understand. Midas may have a bigger nuchal hump, but I like the steep profiles and thickness of the mature hogas much better.

Years ago in my area there was a line of hoga that had nice nuchal humps. If you look up Cichlidman09 on Youtube and look at his hoga Hulk you will see the bloodline that was available at onetime. Seems the ones Im seeing now, including mine do not really get nuchal humps.

My dominant hoga has a nice build and shape but no hump coming in and it's a good 6” +. The other two almost the same size just are not showing either. They are at a breeding size but dont look or act mature yet. Maybe slow to sexual maturity so slow to show nuchal hump?

Will give a bit more time but I need to start rehoming soon. 19 amphilophus need to get streamlined to about 6.

Yeah, I have seen that fish Hulk, that fish made me pumped to get a Hoga...he hasn't posted any vids in like 3 years though, I wonder how he and Hulk are doing. Yeah, 19 amphs is a ton! There must be a lot of activity in that tank!

I'm sure whichever ones you stick with will turn out to be great :)

That Hoga (Hulk) came from parents that my buddy had owned. Very yellow looking compared to these reddish ones that seem more common now. They also seemed to develop nice humps on them.

I have some friends to rehome some of the midas to so I will start thinning soon.

Was looking at some old pics and I found a fish I used to have, was too aggressive with the old pearsei so it was rehomed.

This was from a buddy’s Red Isletas pair.

Here acclimating in a bucket. It is about 4” and check out that big hump

Like I said, I no longer have this fish but reminds me of my current hoga.

Found the old pics and thought I would share.

Sagittae update

They are doing well. Some blurry pics to share, lol

The largest of the trio stable again, last week decided it was peeling and was a salt and pepper. The one to the right along the glass is the other slightly smaller whitish one.

The two tone one that I really hopes turns out to be a male. I want the orange white combo to come through. I know they can carry what they call blue and this one has a band of it. Hope the band goes away and it has an orange back half and snout and white in the middle.

The trio all together, a blurry pic but kind of idea how they compare size wise.

On a fun note I had posted pics on a local forum and someone inquired about my plants. Thought they were real and asked where I got them... the answer was Amazon the store not rain forest, lol. I am pretty impressed with these, they are Aquatop silicon plants and they do look pretty good for fakes.
