Some is ok. A lot is bad. What is the body count? Just one more week and they are through the hard stage.

Losing 15 to 20 a day is not a good sign. You are either feeding too much and not matching it with enough water changes. Body counts tend to be less with feeding fries with newly hatched Baby Brine Shrimp.

Best of luck with them.

Here's the thing... If the parents would have been there, you wouldn't even have known about the dead ones b/c they would have eaten them. I am sure I lost some when they were very young, but I never saw a floater or one stuck to the filter. You definitely want to make sure you are doing water changes frequently. I used water from my larger tanks so I would not have to age the water or dump chlorinated water on the fragile little fry. I did water changes every 3 days when I had my fry in a 15g. Now they are in a 56 cube and I am doing weekly water changes, making sure I rinse the sponges in the old tank water as to not kill the colony of bb on the sponges. I have not seen a dead one since the move... except when they eat the runts. The count you gave was a total, right? Not a daily running average?? If you have any more questions just let us know. I am kind of learning as I go too, but I am few weeks ahead of you. I can tell you what works for me... and my babies are growing very fat and very healthy.

no one said "a day" lol
15 to 20 in all so far. :grinno:
i fed a bit of live brine but ran out so im using frozen.
will go back to live soon as i can.
and how many times would you feed?
5 like said before is alot.
i been feeding twice a day.
I feed at least 5-7 times per day. With the numbers I have, this is necessary. Water clarity is the key... maintain at all costs. If you notice a tinge to the tank, do a water change. I recommend Hikari micro pellets as they will not dissolve in the water. What my guys like the best is HBH Super Soft pellets with krill. I just pinch them up with my fingers and they go nuts for it, eating it before it hits the bottom. The HBH food is great as a staple even as they grow. I also pinch mealworms in half and let them eat them from the inside out, since they can't get through the outer shell. I also planted anacharis and red ludwigia which they eat readily, and as a bonus the plants help keep the ammonia and nitrates in check, helping babies to grow faster as waste inhibits growth. I also added swords to the tank to help with this biofiltration load. I think plants have a big part to do with why my tank is so healthy... all tests are where they should be. :)

I never feed fries more than twice a day. It just takes too much water changes to keep them alive at that rate. At twice a day feeding I do very well with just twice a week of around 30% each time of water changes.

I suppose quantity has everything to do with how often you should feed your fish. Quantity of fish and quantity of food that is. Also, some food dirties the water more than others. All the food is gone in less that 2 minutes when I do my feedings. I also have a few green corys in there to clean up just in case.
Of course, I am including snacks of live food in the 5-7 times per day. Even so, I want my fish to grow fast and don't mind the water changes. I will cut the feedings as they grow however.
