I guess where I am trying to get at is, cichlids that can be housed in a community setting.

Myself and guys like Ruck Fules house amphilophus/parachromis/etc community tanks (mine has 2 breeding pairs). So really you can house most species in community tanks, it just depends on individual bad apple fish ime/imo. there's only a few speices i wouldn't consider capable of commune tanks and there's excepetions to every "general rule of forum thumb." So anythings possible.

Severums are pretty peaceful. Mind you my only experience with them is housing two with a BGK. I'd say they are peaceful in general - for the most part.

Not when they get 10cm+ Mine beat the hell out of all my fish. It killed 3 20cm+ silver sharks and ate a group of blind cave tetras.

In my experiance, you can't go better than an angelfish, although my keyholes were a little narky at times (maybe my 2 were an odd two out?)

I agree with the previous comments on Sevs. Peacefull till they get a little size on them then they can turn . Mine aren't too bad, but get pretty rough when the mood strikes.

gold saum aka GT, uaru A., blue acara, rainbow cichlid, kribs (african i know), rams and FM are what i have experience with in a community long term.

short term, but they were still juvies when i gave them away so i have no idea about adults, are oscar and parachromis loisellei. as juvies they went very well.

one i would be reluctant to try again after getting a hannibal lector/jason vorhees mix in scales is a gold severum. they are supposed to be peaceful but i found out how nasty they can be if you get the bad apple of the bunch. bad enough as a juvie so as an adult it would have needed solitary. i do believe this is the exception though hence why ive mentioned it.

Chocolate cichlids are pretty mellow, thought I'd mention them along with some of the others already mentioned. Not apisto/angel/festivum level peaceful, closer to uaru a. or severums.

I've had sajicas and HRP's recommended to me as peaceful cichlids but I haven't kept them yet so don't quote me on them :)

Uarus , Angels , Discus, most Geos except G.Braziliensis, Apistos , Dwarf Acaras, Rams. Even with these guys though they tend to be rowdy amongst their own kind. Peacefull is a very relative term with any cichlid.
sorry but angels and discus arent cichlids

I currently have sajica, maculipinnis, multispinosa and spilurus in a community tank without problems.. oh and a laetacara curviceps. I also got a blue acara and a jd in the same tank. no problems with the jd but the blue acara messes with the sajica all the time..

LMAO They are cichlids, not big vicious predatory cichlids but cichlids none the less.
