Lots of pics past and present

I'm so jealous of your helleri. The SA tank is great too, very natural looking.

My 125 gallon tank is almost ready to go (finally), will be putting some kind of thorichthys in it. Not much available right now though.

Good luck with the new tank and finding some good stock.
Are there no decent meeki about near you?

Have you tried Linc's fish? They post fish and have great stock most of the time.

There are some run of the mill captive-bred meeki locally, but that's not what I want. I'll be ordering online. Have my eye on some mixtecos right now.

There were some helleri and gold aureus available in the last few months, but they are gone now. That's what I get for dragging my feet.

Thanks for the info about Lincs, but I'm in Maryland. Don't think I'l be shipping fish across the pond. :)

What kind of survival rates do you typically see? I think I want ~10 adults if I go with mixteco since they run a bit smaller. Do you think I should get 12 or more? They will be ~1.5 inches when I get them.

I've read a lot of cautionary tales about bloat, so I'm aware of that and will be feeding appropriate high quality foods.

To be honest I have had good survival rates.
With my helleri I started with 12.One of these was a bit of a runt and never really grew like the others and he eventually died. That is the only one I have lost.
I do hear lots of people having trouble with thorichthys, not so much meeki, maculipinnis and passionis but the others.
Bloat does seem a problem for a lot of keepers.
I have heard many people say their fish were fine until they fed them bloodworm. Exactly why I am unsure but I avoid it to be safe.
Cool temps, high oxygen levels and good hygiene and thorichthys from group two do fine.

Here are a few random pictures of my green terror tank mates.
I really like the hoplo cats, they make great tank mates for medium large cichlids.
