Very nice, so what you planning on doing with the 4 ft tank?
Not sure yet mate.
At the moment it's full of otapa sword fry.
Once they are in the big tank I don't know.
I have been looking at dwarf snakeheads, they have really caught my eye lately.
Whenever I look into other fish species I normally end up back with a tank centered around a cichlid species though.
I also quite fancy some south American puffers.
I could end up with anything in there.
Looking forward to a new project though.
I've also considered a West African biotope.

I am planning on doing a heavily planted dwarf channa setup as my next project pricing 4 ft tanks up at the moment. West African biotope sounds interesting,

I was really tempted at putting a deposit down on a pair of channa aisiatica, but I think they get a little to big for a four foot.Shame though, they were lovely.

Looking good. Are you planning to grow out helleri fry?

While it's sad that you had to lose the GT tank, setting up a new tank is always exciting.

I looked at some smaller channa as well at one point, but snakeheads are illegal here in Maryland because they are an invasive species that is endangering the local bass population.

Channa blehiri are good for a 4ft and form pairs. They are a bit too expensive and inactive for my tastes so i got african knives instead. If i get a tank bigger than my 70 i would keep a whole group, not just 2 as i have now since they are busier and are quite amusing to watch

I love the cichlids man they are just amazing

Thanks Adam,
Yes I am planning to grow on some helleri, perhaps another 10. I will add these to my existing group and beef up the numbers a bit.

There's nothing better than the planning and setting up of a new tank.i think setting up the scape is my favourite part.

Shame about the snakeheads.Another example of a few irresponsible people ruining things for everyone else.

Do it. You could also attempt to breed them with a group and it would be quite a cool tank if synodontis nigriventis, pantadon bulchozi etc.

I may yet.
I do love to see synodontis nigriventis in decent numbers.
West African plant species are easy to find and grow also.
