Lots of pics past and present

Interesting cichlids. would you recommend firemouths for a beginner breeding fish?

Yes I would.
They won't be as easy to breed as convicts but they won't pose any major challenge.
A lot will depend on tank size and tank mates.
Other than that good food and clean water is all that's required.

Its a 70, i dont plan on raising fry and my other fish are either fast or good at hiding so i guess im ok there. I have heard various reports about their aggression though. what is it like?

Depends on the individual but generally they are not very aggressive.
They are less aggressive in small groups and just squabble and spar with each other.

cool, thanks for the info

Looking good Darren. Those lentigosum have really bold patterning for juvies.

The little helleris are coming along nice too. I noticed a small snail in the background ... if your Thorichthys are anything like mine, any snails are not long for this world.

The snails are Malaysian trumpet snails.I think their shells are too hard for the thorichthys.
I like them, especially in fry tanks. They make a brilliant clean up crew for the substrate.

My mixtecos were pulling them out of the shell and leaving the shell intact. I'll probably try some different snails, need to see what's available at the LFS.
