Lots of pics past and present

It's not aggression, it's a feeding strategy.
I've seen it before in melanura and hetros.
They sneak up on the victim and pinch a scale.
Once they get a taste for it it's hard to stop them.

I never knew this was a thing with them. I have just one male in a community tank, and never kept more than one.
It's kind of funny to watch him get chased by a 5" male meeki. The size difference is great.
 
You can't beat the character of a Meeki with attitude.
The scale eating thing normally starts when a sibling looses a scale,by knocking into a piece of decor.
The missing scale leaves a white patch.The patch is easily noticeable to the other veija who then can try to peck at it.Once they dislodge another scale and eat it they are quick to learn it's a quick easy snack.
It can become a real problem if it persists.
Only one of my three does it.I was hoping when the other two had healed and there were no white patches to attract him it would stop.
Seems like he has developed a taste for scales.
