Lots of pics past and present

are there no Bloodworms in Central America? my rainbows love freeze dried bloodworms.
Some central American cichlids especially riverine species like Theraps Lentigosum, Thorichthys from the helleri group yellow labridens etc can develop problems if fed too much bloodworm. All these fish have reported to be susceptible to bloat issues.
I am told bloodworm alone will not cause bloat as bloat is said to be triggered from stress.
I know lots of hobbyists that have kept these more delicate centrals that have lost fish to bloat type symptoms after a feeding regime using bloodworm.
I don't know the exact science behind all this but I never feed it my centrals as a precaution.

I agree with this.
I especially wouldn't feed a rainbow a meaty diet since they are mostly herbivorous.
All CA cichlids should have a balanced diet. Even parachromis. I read an article that said most preditory cichlids get their "veggies" from the digestive system of their prey. This is nearly impossible to duplicate in the aquarium, so its best to offer a balanced diet.
Trichromis salvini is considered a preditory cichlid, but plant matter has been found in the stomachs of wild fish.

The same can be said for thorichthys, although they predominantly eat meaty foods most of those eat algae and plant matter.A good balanced diet including peas, broccoli and spirulina as well as the meaty foods will keep them healthy.
Reptile keepers gut load crickets with vegetable foods to pass on the nutrients to the reptile through their prey. Fortunately most thorichthys I have kept will take veggie foods quite eagerly.

I see thanks for the info, i've been feeding them also those Algae Wafers and they tear them apart, I wish i could have a Biotape tank for the pair though in this 55 gallon like Stannz! I seen some Nicaurage and Costa Rican Biotopes also.My tank feels really fake, but they are still attempting to pair and breed i think i might throw a flower pot in there.

Why can't you?it's easy enough to achieve a natural look.
Rainbows likes to live in shallow weedy sandy areas around the shore or bank.
There aren't really any other cichlids they are found with.Other cichlids from the same areas tend to be deeper water fish.
Multispinosa can be found in small groups and it's a good way to keep them in captivity.
They can be found alongside the livebearer brachyraphis rhabdophora. These livebearers are not very common but I have seen breeders selling them.Together they would make a lovely biotope.
