Lots of pics past and present

I would have thought a lot of the dwarf species would do ok with the knives, perhaps not with birchirs though.
Most jewels get too aggressive. The only other bigger species I have kept have been buttikoferi, far too big and aggressive. The other large peaceful African I have kept was oreachromis mossambicus(may be spelt wrong from memory)
I found the Mozambique mouth brooder very peaceful but gets far too large for a 4 foot.
There are smaller species from this genus that may work.

Thanks for the info, i quite like the looks of Peltachromis nigrofasciatus as well. I have seen a mozambique mouthbrooder over a foot long before at an LFS so i get your point. Those mozambique tilapia will rapidly outgrow my tank, But i want some if i upsize my aquaponics someday.

I think i will hold off on this and keep the salvini, since I want a polypterus more than dwarf cichlids. Thanks anyways :)

Just picked up another six meeki.
I will post pics once they are settled in.
I have a group of ten meeki now and about 16 helleri.

Your probably right Dan.i had 6 meeki once in my 7x2x2 and they were really aggressive. I added another 14 and no problems at all.

Here's a little video update.

10 thorichthys Meeki
16 thorichthys helleri
5 rheoheros lentiginosom
30 ish xiphophourus Helleri Rio otapa
