Lots of pics past and present

I have not tackled the entire thread yet, but plan on it. Amazing set ups, fish, and great photography.

I like your tank setups especially meeki and pasionis. I'm slowly gravitating towards setups like this. I didn't get through the whole thread but very nice
It's ironic. I always wanted to keep the fish I couldn't house, but now that I have the tank space, I am becoming more interested in the fish I could have easily kept the whole time.

Anybody that has read this thread will know I recently had three melanura that I had to let go of because they started to feed on each others scales.I had also come to the decision not to ever keep veija species again.
The reason I came to this decision is because I don't think a 220 gallon is quite big enough for a fish of that size.
This morning I popped into the aquatic shop I took the melanura to.I was horrified when I saw what had become of them.I took three of them there, and one of them had already been sold.
The remaining two were in a horrible state.
They were in a tiny tank around 24 inch in length, housed with a ten inch male carpintis.
The carpintis had obviously been giving the remaining two melanura a right battering.
One was close to death, upside down unable to swim correctly and probably won't see the day out.
The other one looked in better condition but very very stressed looking.
I made my feelings known to the staff and told them I wanted the remaining melanura back.
They were very apologetic and gave me back the one that had a glimmer of hope at survival.
On leaving I said if I ever see a fish in those conditions again I would report them(I'm not sure who I could report them too) but I was fuming at the time.
Anyway I brought the fish home and have put it temporarily on its own in my 4 foot tank.
I'm hoping I can bring the poor guy back to health and then add it to the 220.
Despite my views on tank size for these fish, I felt I had no choice but to keep this one.Hes definitely better off with me than that store.
I hope I never ever have to trade a fish in again as you just don't know what's in store for them.
I will post some pictures when I get him healthy and settled.I don't want to do any thing to stress him out further at the moment.

Have the same feeling about selling fish, I sold a pair of 10 inch midas a few years ago the new owner put them in with a 13 inch chancho and watched as they got destroyed. I am now very hesitant about selling fish.
Good job on saving the remaining one, don't think it would find a better home
