This pair have decided to do it on a branch higher up in the water column.

That's three pairs all with eggs a male guarding fry and I'm pretty sure another pair are about to lay too.
Not sure why there all at it but it's great viewing.

Not sure yet mate.i doubt it to be honest. I saved a few last time and they are in the big tank now with the parents.
I simply don't have the space for many more unless I give up my 4 foot again to grow them on but I did have other plans for that.

wow, I'm glad I had a couple hours to kill at work! What an amazing thread, and what an amazing collection of fish over the years.
I've got to say, I was considering using my 55 for a few Convicts once the Rivs outgrow it... but I may be leaning more towards someone in the Thorichthys family o_O no decision is ever easy in this hobby!!

btw Stanz, do you happen to have any more photos of the Heckelii? They are, by far, my favorite SA cichlid... with Stalsbergis being a close second lol

Thanks a lot.
I may have some on an old phone at the back of my kitchen drawer.
I will dig it out and have a look.

Glad you like the thread.

Found this old video of when I first got my helleri.
I really liked the tank set up like this, but 3 years on the helleri have really come on.Just goes to show patience is everything with central American cichlids.
