Lots of pics past and present

No, I got them from a company that specialises in dart frogs. The pods are used as hides and water dishes for the frogs. The catappa leaves just came from eBay.
I like tannin aquatics website but being an American company, shipping pushes up prices.

That makes a lot of sense.

Look forward to seeing the tank when its finished, might look ok by then.
Show off.
I'm nearly there now mate. Added more leaf litter yesterday. I just want to add some more branches and the scapes done.
Had no luck finding any more fish yesterday. I did see a trio of Apistogramma trifasciata but they wanted almost £70.00 for them and I'm not paying that.
Still I like the hunt for species to finish the tank, that's half the fun.
I've often wanted to do a large dwarf cichlid tank but kind of forgot about the idea until Dan mentioned it some months back. It replanted the idea in my head and I'm very pleased it did.
So I should finish messing with the extra twigs today, hopefully it will look alright when it's done.

Yikes, that's a lot for trifa's, not surprised you didn't pay for them.

Are you going to do any plants near the top to simulate the overhanging vegetation?

I was thinking about adding some palm fronds, dead ones though. I thought they would have a nice affect hanging in from above.
I was also considering adding a bit of hair grass to the substrate. I'm not sure the lighting will be strong enough to penetrate through the tannin stained water though.

And yeah, the trifasciata were a rip off.

Wow, just looked through this thread and am very impressed. You are definately on the next level. I must admit I lurked on this forum for a while before joining up, your comments popped up a lot and I always thought you were helpful but sometimes came across as a bit grumpy. Seeing the research, dedication and care for the fish and their enviroment you provide I guess you have a right to be a bit touchy sometimes.
Thanks for the inspiration, will be back looking at this thread every time I set up a new tank for sure.

Grumpy?....me?...surely not?
You must have the wrong guy.;)

I do get a little grumpy at times.
It's usually when people advise silly combinations of fish in tanks that are obviously too small for their long term well being.

Anyway I'm pleased you like my thread and if I have inspired you then that's great.

I'm starting to wonder if my wife is right about me now.
