Good strikers should be the ones it doesn't work on. Granted I was never on his level, but we were taught to step into any spin move since you see them coming. It's like kicking above your waist (which our teacher would sweep us for ever doing while sparing), it usually only works when they are already dazed. A step back or in defeated those spin moves (not just saying this about my very inferior level, watched my Master do it on his level too).

Though I will admit it takes a lot of training to step into something like that, since it is a counter to your natural reaction. Probably why he drilled us on it so much. (In the video, you saw him step into a huge overhand thrown by his opponent, and the short jab + opponents momentum was all it took to drop the guy.)

That's what I meant about strikers that give him distance to do these things. I kickboxed myself for a number of years, but you'd never see me attempting tornado kicks and such. He's been fighting good strikers for years, so he's probably well aware of what he can get away with. You see Pettis pull off some crazy stuff that shouldn't work; the reason that it does work is because of the speed he has over his opponents. You'd think with the spins, a simple front kick would just knock him off balance, but it's easier said than done.
I just checked his Wiki page, and he begun Kungfu at 3 and competed in his first Karate tournament at 5. His speed and timing is amazing for such a young guy. He's still getting better too.

So Bottles how do you think Page would have fared in that Muay Thai vs Kickboxer clip you posted?

That Thai fighter Changpuek Kiatsongrit, is a legend.
Those Kickboxing titles he won were in Freestyle Karate tournaments, so I'm sure that he's fought a number of MT guys. Most of the MMA guys in the UK fight with a MT style (Dan Hardy, Paul Daley), so he's probably seen a lot of what they have to offer, but they haven't seen what he can do. You can watch tape and see holes, but exploiting them in a fight is not easy if you don't have adequate training partners to prepare with.
I honestly don't think that he can compete with the best MT fighters, but in another few years, he may be able to.

What the fudge? This is kind of scary for NY amateur fighters. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2014/5/2...-denied-new-jersey-fight-licenses-for-hiv-are

"There have been many contestants who have been banned from regulated combative sport in New Jersey because of subdural hematoma, hepatitis C, HIV, detached retinas, and other medical concerns who have competed freely in amateur MMA and kickboxing in New York under the direct supervision of state-approved sanctioning bodies, or at shows without such direct supervision," he says.

Even the guys in the amateur circuit here have to do bloodwork and a full physical.
I remember that our Canadian LHW boxing champ went to the US and had a fight with a detached retina. They didn't strip him of his title, but it was considered, since he was not cleared to fight here.

you can't stand showboating,........... but you're ok with aoki flipping off a guy whom's arm he just broke?

you got some morals mixed up bro.

I don't care if a fighter showboats. it's part of a mental game, they use showboating as a strategy to get into their opponent's head. frustrate them, make them take chances, make mistakes and you take advantage.

now what aoki did, and I've been a fan of his for a while, was as bad as sucker punching after the bell as far as being unsportsman-like, imo. you break a guys arm, he's laying there in excruciating pain and you jump around like a monkey, stick your tongue at him and flip him off? that was a pos move on aoki's part, I was disgusted by it and I think the sport has no room for it. no one will take mma serious if fighters do that kind of ****. but I know you've been a long time Anderson hater so you're a little cynical when it comes to him
So you're qualified to judge my morality based off of one differing opinion? That's awful pious of you, lol. All I said was that I thought it was funny and in the moment watching it live, I didn't say I condoned it. He did go up to Hirota a little bit after and pat him on the back, though. I certainly don't condone making an ass out of yourself and showing disrespect by clowning your opponents, either.

in this instance, yes i'd judge you. I didn't judge your moral as a whole, just in the context we are discussing.

you thought it was funny of aoki, yet you hate Anderson. unsportsman like behavior after the fight is over is way much worse and shouldn't be taken lightly at all. to me, there should be consequences for actions like that. like a player getting a technical foul for screaming at a ref or something like that.

plus you said mayhem is at least funny when he does it. so again, you're just being cynical when it comes to Anderson. if you found Anderson's showboating funny, would it then be ok?

but I know where you stand when it comes to Anderson. you just hate the guy, that's what I chalk it up to.

what I want to ask you is do you also hate someone like Mohamed ali, or roy jones jr?

I don't call Anderson's in-cage antics making an ass of himself. what he does is gets in people's heads and makes top competitors look foolish. if he or anyone has the skills to do that, by all means, showboat all you want. they're in a freakin fight, you can show respect after the fight's over, while in the fight you should be able to use any tactic that will suit your style whether it's a mental tactic or physical one (taunting, talking, dropping hands)

If you know anything about fighting the number one thing they teach you is keep your hands up and don't underestimate your opponent and don't clown around. Anderson Silva was a fool and cocky and he got caught clowning around haha. And yes Mohammed and Jones were fools too. If you think it's ok for them to act like that in the ring then you're no real fan of the sport. That's like saying it's ok for pitcher to clown around on the mound making faces and gestures right before pitching. It's called sportsman like conduct- maybe your mommy and daddy never taught that to you. The funny thing is that most people will remember Silva getting knocked out for clowning around and will forget about all his other fights lol.

I just can't understand your being judgemental but whatever. I was being tongue in cheek about Mayhem and I already explained what I meant about aoki. You can't take anything anyone says too seriously on the Internet especially if you don't know them personally. I was never into boxing so I can't comment on them as I've never watched a single fight of theirs. I've said before that I don't care for stand up fighting that much usually.

so me and millions of people who love Mohamed ali, roy jones jr and Anderson silva aren't real fans?

your thinking is flawed bro. there have been showboating in combat sports, let alone any sport, since dinosaurs roamed the earth. you can say it's a tactic that you don't care to see, but it's pretty silly to say that there should only be one way to fight (and that is without showboating). almost as silly as saying Anderson silva will only be remembered for getting knocked out. yea, ok,......he'll be remembered by the matrix stuff he pulled in his fights that you only see in movies. of course haters like you guys will remember the ko and use it every chance you get because there's not much else you can use to bash the guy. he's been kicking ass with his hands down for years, probably made your favorite fighters look silly at some point. so have at it

i'm the kind of fan who can appreciate someone's talents regardless of whether I hate the guy or not. i'm also the kind of person who can have discussions without the immature grade school insults. but again, have at it if it makes you feel better. i'm sure it will continue to help you think it helps your stance in debates

just so you know, i'm not taking anything you said seriously or personally. i'm just seeing a double standard and calling it like I see it, that's all. if Anderson's showboating is disrespectful to you, then you should hate aoki for being disrespectful.

so do you like Michael page? see the video I posted a few posts back if you don't know who he is. do you like the diaz brothers?

if you hate Anderson, you should hate those guys too. but I only hear you bashing Anderson.
