Grabbing at straws already? If my son spent YEARS as a UFC champ making people look like clowns with his hard work, dedication and natural talents all while having his hands at his side I would be extremely dissapointed and give him a firm spank on the backside. And if his age finally caught up to him and he got KO'd doing what he had been doing for 10+ years I would be the 1st to say I told you so. Were you one of those guys that picked the other fighter every time silva fought? How long was it before you were right? You can hate his style all you want but his talent is undeniable.

thank you

some people making logical sense are chiming in

not only is he grabbing at straws, he has enough to build a straw man and use them in his arguments

Roflmao. Well played.

My take, learn to fight first, add your personal style later. Of course you dont teach a kid that right off the bat. You ALWAYS start with the fundamentals first and then tweak things later.

I don't even know why you would ask anyone if they'd teach their child to keep their hands up.

and to answer ultimate jay, once my child gets to the levels where they know what kind of fighter they wanna be, I would encourage them to use tactics and strategies that best suit their style

Showboating: You can do it within reason and still be a respectable athlete, once its over the edge though your just lame in my book whether the talents there or not. Especially if not lol. Like others said, some are funny with it, some keep it is respectful, some don't. Let em have their fun, if it hurts their public image then that's on them

I spar with friends who actually train mmj and fight in ufc style leagues, I was taught to fight by some old Native American dudes from the Cayuga res over a few years when younger because I was best friends with their son/nephew and they wanted to be sure if we got jumped skateboarding we could handle ourselves. I give my buddies a run for their money when sparring though and have picked up on some of there styles.. I'd say my style is drunk native/muay Thai/kickboxer (not to stereotype native americans, whom I have immense respect for, but my buddies dad was a moonshine kind of guy)

I'd like to get into a gym and actually train to be in a league but my ankles are weak, I have flat feet, rigid flat feet meaning the bones are out of place vs atypical flat feet where you still have an arch if you lift your foot. My foot is like a board. Flippers lol. I'm worried about the kicks and sudden weight distribution, i sprain my ankle stepping down stairs sometimes haha.

Also when in an intense fight I see red and go for the throat.. Is there any type of training to stop this lol for real. Its bad. My friends need to start beating me up to get me off somebody once they're done. I've literally gotten worse injuries from my friends getting me off someone then the dude did to me

He's talented obviously, but clowning in the ring is uncalled for. Sitting back against the cage hands down is stupid. Many fights like the one with Damian Mia he clowned and didn't try to end the fight. I think he has talent but his fighting style and habits I hate.

That Damian Mia fight was on my birthday, lol. Have you even read the reasons silva gave after that fight? Plus you cant take the bad without the good. What about the 2 Franklin fights? The Hendo fight? The Belfort fight? The Okami fight? The 2 Sonnen fights? Not to mention the 3 205 fights where he looked like NEO from the matrix. Does the Mia fight outweigh the impact he had on the sport? There are tons of silva haters (where is maxx when you need him?) but I'm sorry your points are weak.

out of 39 fights, I will only acknowledge that he went too far in the maia fight. that i won't deny. in the Weidman fight he showboated and paid for it but the maia fight was truly overboard.

that's 1/39

I'll let the maia fight slide

all other fights where he drops his hands (especially the forrest, rich franklin and Stephan bonnar) I'd say, is part of what makes an all time great. not only does he do it to elite level competition/former champions, he makes them look amateur

just so you know, i'm not taking anything you said seriously or personally. i'm just seeing a double standard and calling it like I see it, that's all. if Anderson's showboating is disrespectful to you, then you should hate aoki for being disrespectful.

so do you like Michael page? see the video I posted a few posts back if you don't know who he is. do you like the diaz brothers?

if you hate Anderson, you should hate those guys too. but I only hear you bashing Anderson.
I hated rashad too because of his clowning but I don't feel that way now. Its not just doing a couple silly things that bothers me it's doing it right at your opponent in what I feel is out of disrespect...Hard to explain exactly especially when I'm trying to write it from my phone. Hard to come across the way I like it to. And sometimes I don't hate the fighters like the diaz brothers but I don't like when they pull that crap. It's kind of like when there are two very similar bands and for some reason you just don't really like one of them I guess. I haven't watched Michael page yet so I can't comment on him. The other reason I'm so biased against Silva is because I thought Fedor and GSP were better fighters or at least deserved to be in the discussion of pound for pound best and a lot of people just ignored them I felt. Some people just totally rub you the wrong way.

Silva doesn't impress me. Most of his fights were with old guys out of their prime beat up and battered- Franklin, Forrest, Bonner, etc. as soon as he meets a young guy(wrestler) in his prime he gets his butt kicked two times in a row. IMO his legacy was bought. I mean did you see Forrest flop back with a jab? Rigged

you do realize rich franklin was champ when they fought right? rich franklin was ranked #1 at middle weight by all major mma sites as well as the general public before they fought. even myself, I thought rich would be champ for much longer. and he may have if Anderson hadn't come along. rich was never the same again. Anderson took his soul that day

forrest was still a top ten fighter at the time and even though forrest was outmatched, who has humiliated him like that ever? I don't believe it was rigged, it was just so inconceivable for someone to be able to move up and make a respected fighter look like that, that some have called it rigged

as for bonnar, same thing, though outmatched, no one has done those things to him. just completely disregard and almost disdain that someone like bonnar was worthy to step in the cage with him. we will never see someone treat another fighter like that. just stand flat footed up against the fence, hands down and then finish with such ferocity when he feels like it. I don't care how mismatched a fight is. only once in a million will we see that level humiliation

lol @ as soon as he met a young wrestler he lost. silva is pushing 40 and not in his prime. I have stated before the first Weidman fight that I can see silva has lost a step even though he continued winning.

his reign in the ufc were against ranked fighters in the top 10 except maybe 4, or maybe i'll even give you 6 of them. I don't know where you're getting this "most of his fights were against old/passed their prime" from

I'll never deny his skill, but the hands dropping rubbed me the wrong way being a former martial artist. There is a difference between getting into someone's head and total disrespect, and that crossed the line for me. Different people have different lines however. But I actually cheered when he got KO'd doing that same stuff out loud, and I was alone on the comp when I read it so it wasn't to alert anyone. It was pure joy.
