More tank pics, updated

I had a perfectly round boulder I planned to put in for Brick since last week. The trick was placing it in a way he couldn't wreck anything. So I put the boulder smack in the middle of his nest pit while he was occupied elsewhere. Boss (BP) checked it out by circling. So Brick comes over, gives the rock the 'eye' and swims circles around it too. I wasn't sure whether he could move it (it weighs well over a pound). Didn't take long to find out. Brick put his head down and easily pushed the boulder across his pit into a pile of sand. He couldn't get leverage after that but not for trying. Big red's been on a decorating kick lately. The other flat stones he's moved into a circle around his pit. There's a couple of other boulders in the tank that are flat. Brick tips those over or shoves them into a corner. One of those was in Bobo's area I found it standing on end. Speaking of Bobo (choc) he's got a busted lip again after weeks of avoiding that. And Pepper continues to prove been a goon has nothing to do with size. His ongoing war with the catfishes over the branch cave is a hoot. He pops them in the head, they get pissed and hit him back, he goes at their eyes and they freak out and scatter. It's the same fight each time. Have to say Pepper's getting pretty hefty for a rainbow.

Will grab a pic if I can get one.

I got some really cool oversized sponge filters for the 225. I'd been wanting to do it for some time. Best ones on the market are the Hydro Pro because of their pore system and the fact they're stackable. A lot of the other brands aren't stackable. You can use them with an air hose/stone or directly with a power head...just pop it on the top. I've been wanting to free up some vertical space in the corners and these sponges will allow me to do so. The bases are slightly larger than my current diy filters but the increase in corner space is worth the tradeoff. Plus, a certain Oscar won't be able to tip these over as quickly. Make sure the packages say Hydro PRO as there are cheap imitations on the market. Key word is PRO.

The sponges are in 5 sizes rated up to 125 gallons each. I got the 5s. Easy to clean and last a long time. They use a 'reticulated' sponge which supposedly maximizes flow and minimizes clogging.

These are the extra sponges I stacked. You can even get more stems for as much stacking as you want provided you have enough flow to the bottom. In the second pic they're stacked and ready for the power heads.

Holy, when did I miss the update that you got a 225g tank?!? Congrats! The goons will be super happy.

or are you planning something else for the 225g?

LOL I've had the tank since 2019. Saved up for it for months before pulling the trigger with Custom Aquariums (Recommend!). Took 8 weeks to cycle. Thing's literally a tank, never had an aquarium this solid before. Has marine grade metal framing and a metal aluminum stand (solid metal base) for large tanks and black silicone. I knew I was getting an oscar so I wanted to get as big a tank as possible. Could have squeezed a 7 footer in the fishroom but it would have been a nuisance getting a stand. Tank has tempered glass sides (also because I was getting an O).

The main tank has the Oscar, chocolate, rainbow, two synodontis catfishes and my heftiest parrot Boss. The other parrots (Tango, Patch, Kong) are singles in their own 38 gallon tanks. Due to aggression and fighting they all had to be separated. Eventually the plan is to get them in 50/55 tall tanks (same footprint).

My acara Felix was in the main tank but jumped. His replacement Nemo got infection (from jumping) and didn't make it.

The severum, HRP, and two juvie acaras are in qt right now. The plan is to put them in the 225 as well which will make the tank full. If you go to the beginning of this thread you can see the early stages.

I'll be getting around to the 2 year anniversary of my fish with pics and updated profiles.
