Have you noticed any effect on your water's pH or hardness as a result of the Zavlar coating?? Really want to use the zavlar if possible but I'm nervous about it either bumping up my pH or gradually getting dissolved by the carbonic acids in a black water setup.

So when you poured sand over the styro and zalvar, how much sand came off and if you were to graze it, does any fall off still?

the ph hasn't changed at all

after the zavlar dried very little has come off, can only tell that some has come off because its noticeable in the white sand, its holding better then I thought it would

The only 2 problems I have had so far is when I went on holidays for 10 days in August my brother shut the air conditioner off and the water temp spiked witched caused an ammonia spike which cost me 10 of my P's, going to make a DIY water chiller for next summer just in case it happens again.

another issue was a leak in one of my filter garbage cans, the floss on top of the scrubbies got plugged up which didn't allow enough water out and leaked onto the floor (only a couple gallons, caught it early), lessen learned is to clean the floss every month to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks for all the comments
