I wouldn't bother with sealing the drip plate. If you are worried about water spilling directly down and missing the bio, just add in a ledge to force the water to spill on the drip plate. You may lose a little water down the sides, but it probably won't be enough to matter.
thx, ill see how it works first. i bought some pieces of "L" shaped aluminum bars. i plan on siliconing these to the inside of the tank to support the drip plate and eggcrate, i think this should do the trick :)

maybe some kind of putty that doesnt dry.
If the peg bord fits exacly flush you wont need seal the sides, just make sure yu have a way of lifting it out for maintenace.

I used pieces of glass witch I siliconed to the sides to build a sort of frame for the crate to lie on and I a place a lot of that white cotton stuff on top of the crate to clear out as much dirt as I can before the water reaches the balls

just like it sounds, plastic pegboard! its a platic sheet with holes drilled in it, like for hanging tools and stuff. Lowes sells it, although not all stores carry it

Will the sock work with the H20 level higher than the bottom of the sock?
if i follow what youre saying, i think it would right? because the water HAS to pass through the sock in order to go to the next section
