Yeah I know. Having a Jardini with social skills can be a rare find. I just can't wait till he readjusts to whatever has been putting him off. Since he started sooking he only really shows his black colours when the light is on.

I'm starting to think my water quality might be playing a part in it. All my parameters seem fine no ammonia low nitrates, pH 7.2 but I noticed one of the monos scratching. The weird thing about it is the fact that he's using the jar as his scratching post. The jar doesn't seem to mind either... It's only one mono doing it. Any possible explanations to this cos I'm stumped.

As there pretty new fish mate could be start of white spot , due to slightly different water p's between your tank and lfs , although yours is fine the lfs probably wasn't and the fish get used to the water there in after a while and change can start stress off (whitespot) , if it carrys on up the temp slightly and treat with salt or melafix (just my thoughts on it I could be way off ;):D )

At the moment there's no shortage of salt since the togas showed his aerial abilities. But I'd hate for the mono to scratch up against the jar and spread any disease or parasite onto him. So far no visible signs but don't wanna take any chances.

Do you think it would be worth trying some small fish like live mollies to encourage him to eat?

It could go either way IMO mate he'll either eat them and then become hooked on live foods making it hard to pellet train in future , or he'll swim about with some small new tankmates shocking him further into hunger strike
Personally I wouldn't bother with live its a nightmare getting jars off feeders its like crack to them lol :D , I'd give him a bit more time maybe a few more starve days if he's looking fit and strong still then try pellets and fresh etc again
As for the passing of disease I'd monitor that closely any signs of anything even white spot and quarantine the scat , try up the temp slightly to slow down WS life cycle and kill it off

Getting hooked on livies is definitely something I'm worried about so it's definitely a last resort. I saw him snapping at some bubbles on the surface so I tried some floating cichlid pellets: some hikari thing packed with spirulina (no idea when or why I bought that), he took one so that might be an avenue for me to try. His tankmates might be putting him off but I hope I don't have to get rid of them... Especially the scat lol

For now I'd feed him anything pellet related that he'll take , I think I've had those flake things for my malawis in the past once he's taking those start sneaking the odd pellet in see if that works.
I'm sure you won't have to get rid of the tankmates if he wanted them gone they'd be dead already it must have just knocked his confidence regarding pecking order of the tank adding them he'll come around soon I'm sure of it

I bit the bullet and rehomed the monos and scat. Now the toga is eating much more eagerly. Introducing the others probably threw him off the pecking order. Sad to see the others go but I would have been gutted to lose this jar to something so frivolous lol

I had a feeling it would be that mate , very strange how a big scary toga can be like that but just goes to show there not all evil beasts :D glad he's eating again , bit of a shame about the monos and scat but these things have to be done , maybe try a catfish in few weeks see if he takes to bottom dwellers any better
