My Paludarium

Very nice, what did you use to make the back ground?

A combination of black lava rock, 1/2" PVC frame, expanding foam, black corrugated plastic sheet, black silicone, river sand. There may have been a cable tie of three involved. I'll need to check construction pics to make sure.

I'd love to see the construction pics if you are willing to share.

Sure, They are not very good though.
I built a plastic sheet test area. Then built the PVC frame and two arms to raise the rocks. The blue duct tape is the water line.20200823_110917.jpg

I used masking tape to give an idea of proportions fit everything in place with silicone. Then fill gaps with expanding foam and carved the desired shapes and tributary.

After that I felled and planted a bit.20201014_185003.jpg

The brown crypts came in an assortment of sizes. Ordered 6 I think and they came as all of these from a hobbyist selling online.

Let it grow. Shortly after set up.

For behavioral enhancement, when I do a water changes, I often like to flood the whole tank and leave it for an hour or two. This lets the fish explaore a new area. When ever I do, they are so busy in the shallows.

My jealousy is very real. You've done a fantastic job!!!

Questions.... any concerns about weight? Or could I assume it doesn't weigh as much as it looks because of the mass of expanding foam? Also what is the carved and siliconed expanding foam covered with below the water line?

Thanks a lot.
The weight is definitely not as much as it looks. Before adding gravel, plants and water, I could slide it back and forth on my own. Don't get me wrong, it isn't light but not heavy enough for me to worry. I showed the rack factory my planned tanks and explained the setups, they suggested the stand. Also only have 2/3 water means about 90kg less weight in water alone.

The silicone was covered in fine sand I picked up in the river bed near my house. It matches well enough to hide my clumsy handiwork.

I ordered and received today a pair of Nannochromis Transvestitus. I am thinking to add them to this set up but not 100% sure yet. They are still in quarantine so I have a few weeks to decide. This tank has also unwittingly become an Asian themed tank and I like that.
My other 2 options are either in the 75gal river tank. The only fish that may pose an issue in there is the convict but sure he won't get too beat up by them. It large and ideal habitat for them too. Still thinking to add a Steatocranus tinanti or PelvicachromisTaeniatus "Nigerian Red "
Or
Remove the horseface loaches and place them in the tank with the red spot rhinogobius.
In all three scenarios chances of fry survival is low. I am toying with giving my vase tank to my wife for a betta in her classroom and building another tank just for them with some micro-dithers.

If anyone has had experience with these I would love to hear form you. @duanes *hint hint*
