John keep up the great build. As far as how much bio media you need really depends on what your stock looks like. You might have answered the question of what your stock is but trying to remember everyone's stock is a hard thing specially when I am upgrading my 55 gal to a 220.:headbang2 But keep up the good work and use the best of the days off.

Sorry I missed your post,

The stock will be;

2 Green Terrors
2 Jack Dempseys
3 Blood Parrots
1 Green Severums
1 Tiger Oscar (maybe if my niece doesn't kill it)
2 Jewel Cichlids
1 Fire Mouth Cichlid
1 11" Common Pleco

Gonna plumb for a sump also, but will not be adding yet unless I need it If not may add an f5 then

Bear

Honestly, I think I'd just pump the water up to a spray bar of sorts that sprays over a giant sponge that runs the length of the tank. Then just let it drip back into the tank like a rain storm.... There's no need for bio balls and all that stuff and such and what not. no need for anything but a ledge for egg crate to sit on and lay a sponge over it... Done. Drill all your holes in the bottom of it to let it rain...

Just sayin' :D

Thanks TFG. Will still do bio media like scrubbies, but love the idea of the sponge/spraybar. No drilling, Score!

True, but your idea saves me about 600 holes to drill. I'll take it :)

Yah, just do a few dozen large holes in the bottom of the filter (make sure they all get well sealed!).

It could be a little noisier though...

Like the rainfall idea but I do not want the noise. Gonna just add 3 or 4 outlets of 1 1/2" each. I want about 1-2 inches of water in filter.
