Thanks Guys, A few bumps along the way, but finally it is done, Just need to finish the filter when the epoxy cures, and sand and paint the light hood. Finally pick up 2 2'x4' 1/4" sheets of acrylic for the top to keep the fish from jumping out.

How long does it take for the cloudiness of the sand to go away? I rinsed the hell out of it too... :irked:

Looks better today, will get a new pic tomorrow should be mostly clear by then.

Gotta re-think my filter output. gonna put on a couple spray bars rather than the 4 90 degree outputs. The flow is stiring up the sand.

Something like this. Need to spread out the return flow so as not to stir up the sand.

Little update,

Seems as though I did not rinse the sand well enough and it is still cloudy 2 days later. Soooooo.. Gonna stir up the sand and drain the tank. then I will take the sand out a bucket at a time and rinse it again.

Then try 2. I expect a little coudyness when the sand is stired by the fish, but this is not clearing at all.

Why not just rinse it in the tank?

Wife wanted me to do that also, but the sand is REALLY filthy, so out it comes and getting really rinsed again. Thinking about a screen mesh sifter (if I can find fine enough) to get out the small stuff. I used 30 grit so it may work. Got another 100 pounds if needed.

Try something like a 600-1000 gph pump and a diy filter sock one to three layers thick, made from felt sheets ($0.42 each at Wal-Mart) - i used to use them for water polishing, (600 gph on a 55gal, which polished it very quickly.) It should pull out most of the finer crap you have floating around. It may take a day or three, and you will need to change the filter sock a few times, especially at first, but it is working smarter as opposed to harder. If you want to get all the crap in the sand and not just whats floating now, stir the sand up every hour or so, till everything unwanted has all gone into the sock.
