Need ideas for large peaceful fish- that stay peaceful

I just got a reply back from Jeff at Cichlid Connection.. i basically asked him his opinion of the pearsei in a community tank and he thinks it would be fine too.

Now I just need to decide if i want to gamble with a giant tank reorganizing fish.

Must depend on the fish but mine is not a digger. It will dislodge a couple of the plastic plants on occasion but that is about all.
 
Checked out that uarus too... they do look purdy. I'm kind of sold on the Pearsei's though, simply because they're almost completely herbivorous. I'm sure this goes a long way on influencing their tank mate compatibility. Its nice to know that there are other omnivorous cichlids that will get along with smaller fish too. But these experiences seem to differ from one fish/fishkeeper to the next.

So i'm going to minimize my gamble and stick with the pearsei for now. But thanks for all the suggestions. I'm planning on getting a couple elephant nose too as they seem pretty cool.

Now to just find them for sale. Cichlid connections has a 50 dollar minimum so I would either have to get them initially bigger than I want or get more than I want just to satisfy the minimum. I found a couple local pet stores that say they get them in everyone once in while. So I'm pretty much in a holding pattern here.

Unless someone wants to go in on a purchase of them...

Not in my experience...which specific tilapine were you referring to?

Per Wikipedia -
Larger tilapia species are generally poor community aquarium fish because they eat plants, dig up the bottom, and fight with other fish.

Would a polleni be too aggressive then? Paratilapia sp.

:clap Good choice, but then Im biased toward Pearsei.
 
I have a large mozambique tilapia in a tank with guppys and platys , dont bother the small fishes at all , just eat pellets.
