its a bust, i had it set up in our sun room for 2 days, day one the drain tube came out of the 55 gall i was usin for a filter under the tank, only for a few seconds but water everywhere. This is a beuatifull old house with inlaid hardwood floors. today is monday i went to work, got a call from wife, when she got home there was water running over the edge. i was perplexed, she was paniced. told her to turn the pump off. got home, total mess, turtle was missing also. kids and wife searched everywhere for turtle, i started tearing down. got almost all tore down and heard a scratching in the overflow box. STUPID TURTLE climbed into overlflow box, got sucked to drain and plugged it, causing the aquarium to fill and overflow.
too risky to have the diy aquarium in the house, the kids can put a lizard or something in it in their room, but no more on the main floor.
overall it was a good experience cause it is something ive wanted to do since i was a kid. but whata pain. i do have to say when it was set up it was hot. the back ground and statues i will save till im in the mood to buy a large aquarium. I would only put a large aqurium in the basement from now on, the amount of water i cleaned up was unbeliveable. what a mess.
if your thinking of doing one of these go for it, you could have better luck, i probly spent 3 or 4 hundred bucks, not sure, was cheap entertainment for a minnesota winter.
peace out all!!
