Amazing recovery by the goonch (amazing job by you) and such an ironic turn of events...

Wow. This hurts. But having read the message before the photos, I expected worse, like a 75% stock loss. Glad for you it wasn't the case.

Well, if you ever saw my "Final measurements as of recent" thread, you are doing 100x better than me. https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...easurements-as-of-recent.688002/#post-7754696

I hope and pray you will not be knocked down by this. Take heart, Dave. We all know we keep our fish on life support, which is flirting with death.
I think if I had been 1 hr longer in finding them it would have been significantly higher losses.
Hurts most as the Goonch was probably my favourite fish and the one I was most committed to.

Right, but what was the plan for it? It was too big for your smaller tanks and too timid in the 1500 gal pond. Sounded like an impasse to me.

So, it’s been a while since I posted on here so think we need to get up to date.
Good old lockdown has put a dent on where I could go (usually go to a different LFS every weekend) so this has allowed me to concentrate on other things, like breeding bristlenose and L144a (thread to be written). However, more recent additions to the fish house have been found.
Three baby tiger shovelnose, (unfortunately turned into two after a month when one jumped out ( yes, jumped out- never known that happen before with tsn)).

and boy were they tiny at under 2” long.
Next came three Hemibagrus Wyckioides, again just over 2” long ( photos to follow). Which I have split up into three separate tanks for now.
Along with the Wyckiodes came two fish Ihave hardly seen round here so had to order them specially.
wouldn’t normally keep them as they are man made but,

these are two little 3” beautiful rtcxtsn cross that have just started feeding nicely. They have gone in my 6ft community to grow up with other fish to try to keep any aggression down.
Finally, just picked up two more dwarf giraffe cats, not sure on which ones yet as again just 2” long.

And for any none catfish folks, two baby black ghost knives and a baby (3”)gar have gone in with my trumpet knives and eight lemon fin barbs are growing on. (Again photos to follow).
Listing them like this it seems like I have gone crazy but it has been spread over the last four months.

Started on bloodworm, tiny pieces of mussel meat and tiny pieces of white fish and sprat. Tried pellets as they have grown a little but really not interested. Maybe 5” now including tails.

Been a little while since I posted on my own sites. Have been spending a number of weeks building an extension to my fish house and transferring a number of the tanks across to give me more space. Not finished yet so still lots to do.
However, the twin rtcxtsn crosses needed to be moved. In the dinning room community tank they had both reached 9-10 inches and my 4pairs of geophagus red head tapajos have become 2pairs. The cats have left other smaller fish like loaches and other catfish alone, but kept finding a really full belly! Surprised they could even get the 5” males in their mouths!

sorry about the poor quality pics, I had just moved the grow on/overwintering young koi and goldfish and the cats into the six foot tank and they were all extremely active.
won’t be more than a week before the koi and goldfish move outside again but I still may lose a few. The koi were growing on in the floating net in my main pond but because of the move I had to transfer the variegatus into that, cos she would not accept the two cross cats in her six foot tank. Just as angry as the wyckii ever was. She’s grown to 16” and has put on some real weight. I will try to get a few photos. Not far now from being able to try to add her to the pond but want to make sure she has a chance of integration as the wyckii is now out and about, even during the day! Hopefully more organised and more time to photo and post soon.

The koi are beautiful. They actually are my favorite fish but I can’t keep them properly so got my second favorite the betta.

So, just on my way home from a week vacation and great opportunity to pass one of my favourite aquatic shops.
This time passed up on A. Biscutatus
Since I have two large giraffes and a number of dwarf ones. Passed up on the Jaguar cats and even on two different genera of eel tail cats.
Decided to cover a few different fish this time, one I’ve never owned but always wanted and the other two that take me back a good few years.
Firstly,

Not ones for the font hearted.
Picked up two snakehead, and didn’t go the fancy route!
Two potential brutes.
Channa micropeltes.
The next, takes me back many many years.

A lovely 12” Asian swamp eel, monopterus altus.
And finally I picked up a cat I owned a good number of years ago. Took two which I hoped may prove to be a pair. 61A57027-8644-4782-9AFE-0E649457A5DD.jpeg
