all great projects take time and I sure hope the new additions make a big change in your pond. they got lots to eat naw as long as they stay out of the filters everyone will be happy
Thank man, I'm planning a mega filter upgrade in March, too cold to do anything now.

First winter and all the fish are hugging the bottom, fingers crossed everyone gets through it.

Hi Yan, thought I'd scan this thread for updates, been a while since last visit. Pond looks cool, and the garden make-over is coming on great.

Wonder if the cold weather is causing you problems - do you get surface ice? Or is the filteration 24-7 so no ice forms because of constant water moment?

I guess ice expansion can cause damage to the filteration pumps & plumbing. Shame you can't use anti-freeze :)

(Thinking about that, I'd better put some in my car!)

Cheers.

It's getting there hopefully it will be all finished for next year.

The cold weather is causing little visable problems. I've not seen a fish for about a month. Filtration is running 24/7 and I'm still feeding a tiny amount of food daily just to give the filters something to do. There is no ice on the surface although my air intake did freeze as it had dropped below the water line and got some water in it.

Water temp on the surface is -0.5, ambient temp has been as low as -5. I was looking into covers before this cold snap, looks like they'll just have to tough it out. Shortest day today so things can only get better.

Thanks for checking in Andy.

I love when epic threads spring to the top and I get to waste most of a day reading them. I *especially* love it when they come to some sort of conclusion (even if not finished) rather than the person just never posting again.

I've learned a ton from reading this thread. I doubt I'll ever build a monster pond, but if I do I'm set.

So, as proof I read the whole thing I offer:

"Omg, the cave in!!"
"Bump for Zennzzo"
"You should connect the 2 ponds!"
and finally
"Pat Dave for me"

Yeah, the bump for zen thing, I'd forgot about that, there was about 2 pages that got deleted because of that;)

The old pond is now filled in. I always try and update things when there is something worth updating but at this time of the year going outside is not really an option, far too cold.

Thanks for the read and I'm always quite proud when some one makes it to the end.

Brrrr(Lou if your reading this sorry about the white balance):

He's still going, not necessarily strong but still going, not bad for 10 years:

Any details tease with?

You just have to look at the white balance optimistically. Winter sky reflecting off the cold calm winter water at sunrise is hard to top.
