New project, will take a long time

LOL, I was looking for a picture posted in this thread and noticed that this 'project' started August 08:ROFL:

So many people reading and posting back then, I guess I've bored everyone to death, with the exception of Zen and Green;)

Anyway the picture I was looking for is the third one:
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2181447&postcount=355

That is the main system valve and it's a crappy slide valve that now leaks, at the time with everything else to buy I simply could not afford a proper one. With the decision to move the filter housing I thought it was about time to get something that is more up to the challenge:

Looks like I'll be boring everyone else for a few months to come;)

Now HOLE digging,
is a part of this pond business,
that, as it turns out,
is the least amount of work...
huh?

And I figured that would be the killer, make or break, part, getting the hole in the ground big enough...

You know, as I think about it, if all the filtration was half in/ half out of the ground, you could get to it a hell of alot easier, not have to dig so deep.

Building a short enclosure over it, with some storage for your pond supplies might just be the ticket...That way when you have to service or repair anything, it will be where you can easily get to it...

I think that filling in the current filtration trench would give you more peace of mind on that end of the pond too.

The plumbing would be easier to install if you laid it all out, and re-plumbed it like a new system, rather than additions to the old system...

Get it all down on paper first, and see if it is feasable...Once you shut down the filtration, there isn't going to be a really large window of time, but there should be enough to get it how you want it, before you run into any more problems/situations...

You'll get it figured out I'm sure!! wish I was there to give you a hand Brother, because I know how frustrating these things can be to do single handed... a little help always makes it a bit easier...And I'd do it in a minute!! ~BenO

Your right and that is the thinking behind it. The nexus is not as deep as the vortexes so the hole does not need to be so deep but wider. Once pumped from there everything will be on ground level and much easier to work with, rather the needing to be a contortionist to access pipes. I'm going to use the space where the last chamber is as steps down to it where the unit will be and the pump housed.

This whole upgrade will be planned in full with everything needed on site when the work starts so there is no fooking about, turn off, reset up and fire it up again:) It's going to annoy the hell out of me having a great filter that I can't use but the time between switch off and switch back on again needs to be so small, I'll just carry on with my cleaning as is for now, water clarity is improving.

Thanks for the offer of help, I've already roped in Dan next door;)

Ah brother, I wish you were closer too so you could glue it all together for me;) This baby is brand new and will go in the new filter pit as the new system shut off valve.

It' so big I think it deserves it's own thread;) and it's was so freaking expensive:nilly:

Nice Build bro! I am not bored!

Thanks;)

Something amazing happened today. I cleaned the filters which I'm doing bi-daily. The filter floss is still filthy every time. Anyway, I empty the chambers clean the media and refill the filters with fresh water with the system shut off.

It started to rain so rather the start filling back up again I netted a couple of fish and took some scrapes. This is not simple as I've not seen any fish for months and have to just sweep the pond with my landing net. One of the fish I got was one that had flukes a couple of weeks earlier.

Scrapes were clean:headbang2

Got back and I was stood by the pond waiting for the filters to fill, and all of a sudden a fish appeared. One of the very first starter fish that went in. A minute later, another fish then another then another. After 30 minutes they had all bar a couple made an appearance at the top of the pond. I think this is a reflection of where I'm at with getting the thing clear, after weeks of no improvement all of a sudden it seems to be clearing by the day..... all this before the nexus arrives:)

Most EXCELLENT!! health report Brother...
I bet the fish are Happy too!! :P

As your pond clears, you'll know that with the knowledge you have gained and a new Nexus system, you probably won't be having to do all of this work again.
I know that feeling, when we do all we can possibly do,
and the results don't happen as fast as we want or need them to...

You know you did name this thread "New Project, will take a long time"
not too sure what you were thinking but "a long time" isn't up yet!!:D

I can picture you and the Mrs. sipping a glass of wine on a warm evening, this summer, enjoying all the hard work and worry you have paid forward on this hole in the earth you made and filled with hard work, frustration, money and Beauty!!

Good Job Brother, you and the Mrs. are in the home stretch!;) :D

We are not out of the woods yet, I've still got follow up scrapes to do. Plus the kohaku may need an injection.

However, thanks for helping me stay positive. Your support is always welcome:)

The new filter system has already been virtually upgraded already;) If I posted every idea and discussion that happen with regards to this pond MFK would meltdown;)

:ROFL:MFK meltdown, I love it!
That is a whole lot of discussion!
Lucky you got Nigel so close, I've never had the luxury of a Nigel!
Imagine how much money you actually saved?

I know you have spent enough to have made an additional room on the house where the Hole is...

Hey wait a minute....
what if the Pond was an indoor pond??! Hmmm?!
Gotta be easier than digging a hole!

If you built a room over the pond, the weather wouldn't play havoc with the water parameters...:nilly:
