New project, will take a long time

Tried to get hold of some ghost carp to put in the pond today, not really the season for cold water fish over here, the plan always was to get around 10-15 at any size just to kick start the filters and I like them and they do get big over time but couldn't find any(easily reach 15lb in weight). We did find some koi and almost bought 2 small ones but neither of us fancied them much. They did have 2 shusui which were very nice and much bigger but I thought they were a touch over priced, maybe not but funds are limited at the moment:naughty: plus I don't really want to add any expensive fish to start with, so the pond is still home to just newts, frogs and no fish
What no bump?...LOL http://www.enkoi.com/subcat296.html

I have one of the low dollar shusui, he has his scales right, just alot of black on his head...

Spring will be better, I think, winter they just slow their metabolism, and don't grow much if at all anyway...

i agree with Lou lou that it would be beautiful japanese garden... but it looks beautiful now... i finally got back..

Sorry, Bump for Zen!

I couldn't agree more about spring, but I'm paying to run a fluid bed filter that is clearing out newt and frog crap, even though they don't grow or eat much during the colder months I'd rather have something in if possible just to make sure everything is ok before the spring spending frenzy(lots of overtime) begins.

Got any pictures of your shusui? Personally I don't care about the whole perfect koi thing, if your happy then so am I, If I like a pattern and it's not up to the koi standard then I couldn't care less as long as I like it. All the 'bred for show champion blah blah blah' crap doesn't interest me at all.

One fish a tancho kohaku got me started about 15 years ago at garden centre they wanted £1500 for it and I have to agree to this day I've never seen a better example, but they are so rare to find with the perfect spot, but if I'm happy with the spot who else really cares, do they sit everyday and watch it? I think not:)

I never go over £50 for a fish(apart from George:naughty:) broke my own rule there:ROFL:, could have been worse I went back to the LFS we got him from today and they had an Asain aro 'on sale' at £750, CITES cert etc. beautiful, but worth the extra £700 because it's an Asain, I think not

Give me time to plan and work a design out and I'll see what I come up with, japanese gardens are a pain, especially with the price of acers, they cost a bomb, I've had 2 over the years and both have died, both from cuttings

It can be done, my folks are only 3 miles away and they've got 3 acers that the cutting came from, I'm just not green fingered

oh you are green fingered ...it probably needs to be placed in right location.

I especially like the orange/red color thing...Orange then if it is one shade darker they call it red..WTH? it's still orange, I don't care what they say...

This guy was really hard to bowl today...must be the bright sunlight...it's got to be 80F or better...
