Things have gone pretty smoothly up until now. They should get interesting when I start with the settling tank, filter, and irrigation system to water the tropical heliconia garden surrounding the pond with the waste water. I've been looking at different designs for maintaining this pond/pool clean without it turning into my full time job. I'll be needing plenty advice from everyone on the forum. I'm not computer savvy enough to get the drawings onto this forum but I'll start soon with the pictures and throw around some ideas.

To give an idea of what I'm thinking, I have the 2 1/2 4 inch bottom drains emptying into a settling chamber. I was thinking about a homemade garbage basket/leaf catcher that I can empty out by hand. The water then passing on to a couple of rows of filter brushes, then through 3 different grains/two sheets each, of filter matting. The water is then pushed back to the pond by way of the filter bog.

I need advice on the best way to take this water out of the filter from the bottom drains and circulate it into my garden. I need a pump of some kind because gravity feed isn't an option. I wonder if clogging the watering pipes will be a problem?

wow! i am so jealous of your successful project.
this is a great idea, esp since you live in costa rica, i'm pretty sure everything is a lot cheaper than it would be here in the states.
plus the tropical weather suites this project well.
i will be looking forward to the final outcome and i hope everything turns out accordingly.

Its a little easier to see how the steps will flow out of the pond up on to the deck. The first step will be under water. This thread is sounding a little like the Home building channel, but what the hell. I'm putting a lot of thought into this project because being able to really enjoy this project involves many different areas. Wife, Pond, kids, fish, beauty, filtration, ease of cleaning planting, colors, etc. Notice I put my wife first. She's not a regular on this site but it could happen.

Filling in the stairs. I'm going to have the side next to the deck with the green pebble and water will run down it like a waterfall.

That's my bomb shelter. Nicaragua on top and Panama below. Things could heat up with the tortilla trade. You know, just in case.
