Not necessarally, I think one reason that pools are so frickin cold is that the glass ceramic reflects all of the sun light and doesn't retain heat. I know of plenty of swimming pools here in Costa Rica that are super cold. I think mine will be warmer because I'm putting natural pebble in the shallow areas and the whole bog will only be 6 inches deep of water with rock beneath. This should warm things up a bit.

I've been talking to a couple of big constructors here in Costa Rica about a couple of concerns that my father had brought up about the stability of the retaining wall rock. He had asked me that if the difference in expansion with heat and cold between concrete and rocks would cause an instability of the rocks. I was just assured today that the expansion rate of cement and rock isn't significant enough to cause the boulders to fall or become loose and fall an a playing child. There is another issue in Costa Rica that also comes into play and that is earth quakes. I was told that my set up is plenty strong and stable to with stand a good shake but just to be safe I'm going to put a little more cement coming up from the lower rocks to support the upper boulders.

The workers have just started with the rock surface for the steps. One of the reasons for putting pebbles here is that it will heat the water a little bit with the sun. The guys put some of the white grout from the tile on the rock and I think dark grout will work better. It won't look as dirty and will heat up a little bit more.

Here are some more pictures of the pebble rock. The white stuff is the glue and I'll be putting dark blue grout in between the pebbles. The 4 inch hole in the upper level is to circulate the warmer water from the shallow area. It's kind of a bottom drain from the top. They started on the steps yesterday. It gives a little better perspective of how everything will fit together. On the weekend I made a couple additions to my present fountain with a couple of ferns and what they call the heart of jesus plant. I can't help it, I'm getting anxious to start planting around the pond.

The steps are starting to look cool now. I just couldn't see it before. By the way, the palm with all of the orchids on it will be finding another home soon. I'm also getting a feel for the pebble work and a better idea of how it will look when its finished.

Thank's for the support. It nice to know that people are appreciating all of these photos. I'm sure that its quite a bit of band width.

You betchya, About the hand rail, I'm trying to make the steps at long as possible as to not need a handrail. We'll see. I'm planning on putting a spot light from the bottom and shining it on some nice orchids stuck to the palm. I'm not sure just where to put the light though. I don't want to blind people coming down he stairs or people trying to go back up. I'll finish the steps and then figure that out. Just like everything else I'm doing. 100% winging it!
