I like the pleco idea, but no commons....

A nice group of Royals, a school of BNs, Tri-Beacons, so many choices of plecos that would stay fairly small and not chase the kids.

You think plecos would go after people wading? I dunno about that. It would be nice to have smaller decorative ones, but a 2' sandpaper hoover of a gibby or a common may go through the algae more effectively.

On the other hand, the kids might get draped with a 10' string of pleco poo, which would be most unfortunate.

yea I think plecos (especially commons) crap way to much for the amount of algae they clean. it's like you trade one maintenance item for another. Did you ever think about some freshwater clams in your bog and some pond snails in the main part to help control algae? A dozen or so of each would probably help in the long run of things.

Ooh man I don't think he wants pond snails. They would be everywhere in a big hurry.

I don't know if you have a place to hide it, but a couple of square meters of algae screen might cause the algae to grow preferentially on the screen instead of on your tiles. Look for a thread in the DIY section called something like "Mega powerful nitrate and phosphate remover". You probably have enough sunlight there to just run a solar powered one.

I just got back from my honeymoon in CR & I dont know how you keep that pond from turning into Algae soup! The sunlight in CR is unbelievably intense, even for a South Texas boy like me. You cant even imagine the amount of wildlife & plants. The diversity is incredible. The pond looks great, though! Keep up the good work & consider me a +1 vote for a big shoal of Clown Loaches!

I am "glad" that I dont have a pond like that . I am somewhat of a homebody by nature .
As is other than work and few other things my wife has to drag me out of the house on weekends .

If I had a pond like that would't leave lol would just look at it in amazement all weekend long.
Like you would stock cichlids .

Do you ever have "cold" spells there or unheard of? By cold I mean under 65 at night.

Very interesting looking frog in your filter.

In December and January it gets around 65 at night. Nothing very serious though. My wife does have to drag me out of the house.
