Michelle Obama came out today and said Men feel entitled because women protect them.

Please....why doesn't she just go away? What is it with her and killary? Nobody cares what they have to say.
Yeah both clans should just go away.....they certainly have enough money to do so.

People will get guns some way or another. An outright ban won't stop anything.

However control on you gets them is important IMO. Here we have to do written tests and competence tests before we can own a firearm, have a safe inspection and everything. Yet still we have a huge homicide rate, generally farm, gang and robbery murders. It's complex

Hello; This.
hello; Another thing rarely mentioned. That is the positive results of having a gun. Some authorities cite from 60,000 to 80,000 times a year in the USA where the presence on a firearm stopped a bad outcome. Some suspect even greater numbers of saves. Clearly the majority of these positive events do not involve an actual discharge.
I have had three such incidents in my life where just my having a pistol or shotgun around settled things down.

Yes, while this is true I'm thinking that it's the people who use guns respectfully and lawfully that do so. If people pass the tests to own or carry a firearm wouldn't they also be less likely to be the ones committing crimes with them? They'd also likely be the ones to settle things down without discharge...

The Constitution is but one of the things that makes this country great and in it lies the second ammendment.Thank God we have it.In some other countries citizens are not even allowed to defend themselves in their own homes much less own a firearm.
I read a recent article about a homeowner in Australia who shot and killed intruder in middle of the night. The homeowner has been brought up on charges for the crime of defending his home and family. Some of the laws that Australia have in place are what Obama and Hillary are so in love with and thank goodness she didn't win. Some of those other countries that disarms their citizens with the ridiculous laws that are in place if that works for them then great but don't try to impose that crap here.

Hello; Not so sure a test is going to make much difference for a few reasons. First being there is already a vast amount of law on the books about any possible thing a person can do with a gun. By that I mean for many years there has been a law about very specific actions taken with a gun. My take is every scenario is already covered by some law.
The way it has always been explained to me is that "ignorance of the law is no excuse". If you own or carry best to know the laws, classes or no classes.

Next thing is the difference between an enumerated right and a government granted privilege.
Many folks seem to get the two confused. In the USA we have a Bill Of Rights which are Constitutional amendments. You don't have to pass a test or take a class to use such a right. Requiring a class to have a firearm would be similar to having a poll tax in order to vote. Our second amendment rights have already been eroded to a degree.
There was a discussion about this in a thread a while back on this forum. I did not save my comments and will not try to rewrite them all, but they can be looked up.

That said I think folks should get some training about the safe use of a firearm simply because it is a wise thing to do.

Australia has a lot less violent crime in general, it varies greatly. Firearms aren't going anywhere, so with decent controls they can be in the hands of those who can use and look after them with the proper precautions and mindset.

I think a right to firearms training would be correct, because honestly a person who's not 100% confident with a weapon can hurt other people or potentially kill them unintentionally. Maybe just a mandatory training course and everything would make sure those who are fit to bear arms can do so in a safe manner.
