plans for the weekend - /\/\onster canister set up

HarleyK, you're the man!

I got a couple of 2250s for my 300g, and I'm sold. I wanted to get 2080s or 2260s at first, but both were too tall for my cabinet. That DIY mod with turning the pump on it's side just might give me enough clearance to get one of these!

Howdy,

Why would you recommend using ehfi substrat over the substrat pro.? I'm thinking of using this same filter for a 210.

The SubstratPro allows unhindered water flow because of its spheric shape. I opened the canister after one year and almost no crap had accumulated in the SubstratPro. Granted, I backwash, but still - I want my biomedia to do just a little bit of mech filtration, too. The regular Substrat had held back a bit better. I just think it's not as good and on top of that it's more $$$.

Yeah, deeda's idea is brilliant. I did that after the one-year cleaning as well. It's easier to handle and it's running just fine.

Kensfish has 5 L of Ehfisubstrat for 62.99 and has Ehfisubstrat Pro for 57.99 would that sway your decision? Also it has been said that bio media that doesn't have enough mech before it will just clog up.

bump...I had to refer to this thread as I'm getting a 2262 Friday and wanted to see how you put the media in again. I set up a 2260 on my mom's 125 a couple years ago, but we bought large-holed bags for the ehfimech and I wanted to see if you could just put that stuff in w/o bags for simplicity since it only comes w/ one and bingo.

That is how i set mine up and i have not had any problems with it.

I have had my 2260 for about 3 months now. I bought it used for 200 bucks with media. I replace a oring on it and a couple of clamps, just for a good state of mind cause they looked kinda old. Any way the filter is running great and I got to looking at it the other day and relized the motor said made in west germany!!!!!!! That should tell you the reliablity of these things. for those of you who dont know there has not been a west germany in 20 years following the tearing down of the berlin wall!!
