Loving the planted tanks that everyone is posting...

I am loving them so much that I want to make my main tank a planted tank - but I have one problem I keep fish like O's and JD's which I have heard are terrible at uprooting.

Is there a way around this?
you can use plants that attach to driftwood or rocks. anubias, java ferns, mosses and a few others can attach to wood or rocks. you just hot glue or tie with fishing line to what ever you want them to grow on. wait tell there roots attach to what ever it is and then you can remove the fishing line and your fish should not uproot them.

in the picture above your post you can see this done on the right side.

Thanks for the advice... I will go and have a look for some of these tonight.

Don't have any driftwood in my setup, so it'll have to be tied down to the rocks.

they could take a long time to attach so i would either hot glue or use fishing line when you attach them to the rocks.

I like SuperGlue Gel for both rhizome plants and corals, non toxic, fast and easy.

Ok, well managed to get a few plants on Friday which the guy at the LFS assured me were ones that would be fine to grow on rocks or driftwood.

After much frustration and unlady-like language I managed to get a few tied down to some of my rocks.

I'm testing out 2 different types of plants for now - so if those work out I'll expand :)

Thanks for all your help!

Rescaped my tank earlier today, got rid of some driftwood in the process and decided to snap some pictures of my growing amazon swords that I took off the mother plant about 4-5 weeks ago. The root system with these were rediculous!

BTW natural born, that is how i started my tank out with my JD and Nic. I put all plants on driftwood, when i found out they didn't bother them i went to planted and yet they still don't bother any of my plants. Im not sure how big your JD is but mine is still on the smaller scale, you can see him in pic 3

Your plants are very nice but as someone who likes cichlids. Love your cichlids they must love that set up.

^Thanks,

I hope that my cichlids like the tank, they don't destory anyting, well sometimes grassy plants, but other than that they seem to enjoy it but sooner or later they will be taken out because of the size they will get too.:(
