BTW natural born, that is how i started my tank out with my JD and Nic. I put all plants on driftwood, when i found out they didn't bother them i went to planted and yet they still don't bother any of my plants. Im not sure how big your JD is but mine is still on the smaller scale, you can see him in pic 3
Almost a week now with plants in the tank and so far no one is bothering them.

I have them all tied on to rocks, will they eventually attach themselves on to the rocks?

My "planted" tank is only a 30 gallon long tank.

I added black gravel 10 days ago as my substrate was pebbles lol. The plants are spreading nicely.

Its for darters with fast flow water thus initially had no plans for plants.

I am lucky as water here is high in minerals-no phosphates and by pure luck added a plant that grows non stop .
I also had moss but it was spreading like a spider web and all over the tank thus removed it.

Stem plants are great for a background. The easiest ones are Egeria/elodea sp. (anacharis) and ceratophyllum (hornwort)

Some other fairly easy ones are Hygro, Lagarosiphon major, Dwarf ambulia (Limnophila sessiliflora)

I found Milfoils (myriophyllum) very easy to grow as well.

Of these, I have grown L. major, hornwort and milfoil. I got some new ambulia the other day. I will see how it does.
One problem I have is that the back of my tank is dark near the top. :(

Hello everyone,

I just though I would share with the tank I used to have last year.

It was a 125 gal tank,

gravel mainly cheap, home depot river pebbles + some eco complete

lightning - 4x 96 W compact fluorescent 10h/day

fertilizing daily + CO2

ps. These are some pictures of when the tank went wild ... enjoy !

My new limnophilla sessiliflora sent up a new whorl or two. It closes up in the evenings, which is kind of cool. I guess it is easy for even me to grow. The plantedtank.net's profile is correct.

Milfoil is awesome plant! Mine might be facing a deficiency though... Note the small yellow new growth...
