Questionable Piranha Tank-mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
at the tennessee aquarium they have a large school of peacock bass with a school of piranhas. the piranhas tend to stay towards the back and the peacock bass were right up front looking for attentions. they also has a few plecos in there with them. the plecos were very large and didn't seem to mind anyone.

Just be careful with what you pick. I personally would not mix any fish with the piranha. I had piranha years ago and I saw a lot. I am getting another piranha in a couple of weeks and I can't wait. But, just be careful.

the part about the pacu not backing down and fighting back is a lie mine is with 3 med size rbp and he wont do anything when they nip

honestly if you want something mixed with p's u have something wrong they are great shoal fish, and in my opinion putting anything besides piranha in there tank is just wrong!.

For the record I may have posted this here before, I do not remember I Do have a peacock bass named Huey , He is in a 125 with my 5 Red bellies, and a high fin pleco. They do bite the plecos tail once in a while though i have never seen it he is rather large though so he will chase them down if they go near what ever he is eating, my P bass has never had a nip on him and his instant aggression and speed scares the **** out of the the P's , the p bass can definitely hold his own , he is about 12 inches and i think the red fins keep him safe, if piranhas go for a meal and see aggression they stop instantly a very scared fish is the red belly

Here again just be careful. I have seen piranha do a lot of damage. Good luck.

it is possible to keep piranhas with big aggressive fish that can hold their own.but the big drawback is that the piranhas stay scared .and most of the piranha owners would want their piranhas to be like kings and rule the tank and not act scared.
its no use if you keep piranhas and and want them to be sissys !

I have 6 (4-5") Red Bellies... and some how I have a red tail rainbow shark that has been with them from the start and is now about 3" that they do not both whatsoever.... He just swims right through their school.

I also have a blue crayfish that has worked out great in cleaning up carcasses and scraps.
