in home aquaria probs like 120cm +++ and i mean +++ cuz they can get even LARGER is given the right space and diet. probably more like 150cm ++ in the WILD!
I picked this guy up at my LFS about 2 months ago. At the time I was looking for a bottom feeder to help dispose of uneaten food and unwanted convict fry. I found him in with some spotted pincats, and when I asked I was told he was an Asian RTC. At the same time I was assured that unlike SA RTCs Asians only got to be 4-5 inches. Since then he has more than doubled in size from abour 2.5 to now 5 inches. I am begining to wonder if the LFS had any clue what he was. So I guess my questions are: Is he an Asian RTC? If so how big will he get? If he's not, what is he?
hi new to the site today so still finding my way around. i've just been given a 12x2x2 fish tank buy my friend how has moved un the tank is to big 4 his new home..
My question is i would like to get an rtc ive heard that grow pretty big un while the lenght aint the prob i'm worried that the with is will this be a prob 4 this kinda fish...???
It's not wide or tallenough. RTC grow to 4 feet in length, and a 2 foot wide and tall tank won't accomodate them. In addition, it's not nearly enough volume for a full-grown RTC. You really want something in the 800 to 1,000 gallon range for them.
I am not sure what catfish that is. I do know that Asian RTCs grow about the same size as SA ones. Maybe you could google the photos of Asian ones and see if that's what he is. As I said, Asians and SA's get the same size, but Asians get much, much meaner. They are usually the only fish in the tank becuase they kill tankmates, even if they don't eat them.
