Looking good, very nice rtc. Is it just the 2 big cats in there?

Don't know if it's a possibilty or helps as your pond's been up for a while, but I'm going for a blue tarp over the top of the liner on my big cat pond to avoid the black fish blending into black back ground problem. Could that work on yours?

Well im in the planning and saving stage of building a fish house so i can have a bigger pond and room for some growing on ponds as well so a different colour linner could well be a good idea if i dont fiberglass then i could just use green sealent.

shrimp and crayfish will give catfish that cream yellow or orange color. My hybrid channels are both a nice darkish yellow almost orange, and I never noticed till I rescued the new one I have and it's solid white lol. I've been feeding him shrimp and now he's turning yellow too. My rtc x tsn also has this tinting in his belly, and my little 7" rtc has it also. I think it's cool. Beautiful cats by the way.

how many times do you feed your rtc a day and what times?
how often do you feed him shrimp and crayfish?
whats the best way to get the rtc tail red??
if you can help me thanks alot!

Hello everyone,

I'm kinda new to all of this but had a question about my Redtail I just got for an early Christmas present. I see that most people feed them live food but mine is only about an inch big and I don't think he could eat a feeder fish but he won't eat the sinking pellets either. what should I try to feed him?

Don't feed live. It isn't necessary at all. Mine has never eaten live, and has grown quite well and is very healthy. I'd try bloodworms at his tiny size. See how he feels about that -- most fish can't resist them. Also, try tiny, tiny pieces of fish filet or shrimp. The key is variety. He'll be eating anything and everything pretty soon -- don't worry!

Here's my guy, who's never eaten live. He's grown from three inches to 27 inches in a year and half.

OK. I'll try that. We gave him some small dried shrimp last night and he gobbled those down so I don't think he will have a problem eating =) I'll put pics up as soon as he decides to come out of his cave.

That's good news!

Haha, the RTC will be fed plenty, I am also afraid of him seeing the aro's as lunch, but I'll watch closely and keep him well fed. 2-3 years is good enough for me, in that time I'm sure I can get a large 750-1000 gallon kiddy pool from walmart or a stock trough.

I'm so exited, I'm going to be an RTC owner!

Yes he will try and attempt to eat your aro's if it can fit in it's mouth. From past experience I've owned total of 4 RTC's but not all at the same time. First experience I had 2 RTC's that I bought both young at 3" and started them off in a 72gallon. Once they both hit 10" I moved them to a much larger tank. They both grew 20" in less then 1 year. They were housed in a 240 gallon Fiberglass/glass front tank(72"x29"x26"). I had them with my 2 x 22" silver aro's at the time. Then I traded both RTC's in and got my hands on a 30" RTC. I got him for free from a LFS store cuz they didn't have space and the city's main aquarium center didn't have room for it so I said to myself "it's free and why not" Anyhow bad move on taking it as the 30" RTC killed one of my 22" aro's. The RTC had the aro's head in it's mouth and I had to pull the aro out with my hands. This was a whiles back in the year 1999-2000. After that I sold everything and moved to a different city and now present I'm back into fish. Last RTC I've owned is currently now and he's about 9". He got from 3" to 9" in less then 3 months and I only feed him twice a week.

Hello everyone. I have another question. We just noticed that my redtail we just bought (who is only and inch big) is missing one of his pectoral fins. He doesn't have a scab or anything. It just looks like he was born without it. Has anyone heard of this or seen this? Should I be worried? I'll try to put pictures up when my camera charges.
