tank 1 150gallons with fluval fx5 filter , 3 clown knive fish, 1 redtail cat, 1 channel cat, 1 bullshark, 2 pictus cats, 2 african cichlids, 1 pleco, 1 synodontis, 2 pacus.

- Unless all these fish are tiny the gill curl will not go away. It is happening because the tank has to many large fish and no matter what you filter it with that volume of water can't cope with the amount of waste all those monsters produce. Hence you likely have very high Ammonia and Nitrates, which is causing the gill curl.

I absolutely love rtc's but know i wont have the room for one for awhile. Is there any harm in buying them as small as I can find, then letting them grow in my 120 4x2x2 and when they reach around a foot or so, selling it, then getting another baby until I can get a big enough tank? Also in the 120 i have 4 angels and 7 clown loaches. It has a 60 gallon sump with a ton of filtration and around a 5x turnover rate.

6x2x2 is 180g. 6'x18"x2' is 125g.

You will have a hard time selling a larger RTC, not many people can house them. They will get that large within a couple months as well. It will eat your small fish within that time too. You could keep it in a 6x2x2 for maybe a year at the most.

That is still decent but the limited depth will cut the time down he can live in it. You'll get about 6 months or so before he is as long as the tank is deep.

The best/cheapest way to house them is an indoor pond or preformed Rubbermaid tub. The 300g model will house one for quite a while since it has good dimensions.

Just wanted to let everyone know so they don't worry, I am not going to get an rtc due to the information given. I was hoping they grew slower, and a 125 would be good for awhile longer. It's obviously not, so i will wait until I have a proper tank. Thanks for all the information.
