Stealth heater crapped out on me.

now iam worried, i have a 200 watt marineland stealth heater that is a month old and so far is working fine, should i return this heater , and if so what heater should i get?

I keep hearing this over and over that stealth heaters are crapping out and some killing fish...I know of a lfs that will not carry them any more.

Stealth are crap imo. I dont have any large tanks/heaters, so I cant speak for the big boys, but I've used almost every brand of medium (in tank) size at the LFS. Hydor THEO heaters are by far the safest & most reliable I've used & the big Fluval is the only other one I would even try (haven't tried it yet, though). I've heard good things about the Jagers too, but I've never tried them either. The Hydor THEO's are very high-quality, bulletproof reliable & very easy to adjust. I've been using them for over a year now & never had a single issue. I've even thrown a few away just out of sheer paranoia that its too good to be true, but still have never seen one fail or leak current.

your bacteria should be fine.

as for the heaters, well, I trust my ebo jagers :)
I went out and got a 200 watt ebo jager this morning before work . I am gonna grab a controller as well this is just getting ridiculous. I take really good care of my equipment and everything is on surge suppressors

my 200w stealth also broke. broke about 3 months after purchase. raised the temp from 81 to 90.. fried my clown pleco. =/

thanks.. you can mail your heater back to marineland for a replacement. there is a life time warranty on the heaters.

Yup , I am on hold with them right now :) Ill be getting a replacement ill test it and store it as a backup. Because of my experience with these heaters I won't be using them full time anymore let alone purchasing new ones.

Please note folks these heaters did work glowingly before they failed. And im not saying to replace them all ASAP or this happens to everyone. Its very possible I have bad luck but I don't want to take the chance ;)
