I just purchased a Nikon D5000 with the 2 kit lenses, which are the 18 - 55mm VR and the 55 - 200mm VR. I am considering the Nikon SB-600 flash and the SU-800 wireless speedlight commander. I have not had this outfit for a full week, yet. I'm new to DSLR's and appreciate your input.

^ a speedlight will allow you to get amazing photos! the benefits are:

- use a super fast shutter speed to freeze all motion and keep the fish in focus, like 1/200th +

- use a small aperture (large f-stop number) for a large depth of field where everything is in focus

otherwise youd be stuck using large aperture and slow shutter speeds to compensate for the low amounts of light. this results in a dark image and/or the most of the fish being out of focus.

best investment you can make!

I have a Nikon D60, just have the 2 kit 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses. Would like to add a macro lense to the setup as well as the SB-600 speedlight. I also bought a studio light fixture when the local camera shop went out of business, it puts some extra light into the tank and seems to help a good bit to get clear photos.
