Canon 7D with kit 15-85mm lens and 70-200 f4 IS. I use a 430EX II speedlite and my Manfrotto 190CXPRO4/498RC2 tripod also. Thinking about picking up the 50mm f1.8 next

I'm curious, did you memorize the name for the tripod or did you have to copy and paste it from somewhere?

Looking for a DSLR, I have wanted one for a long time and currently have no camera to speak of so I really gotta get on it. I was thinking the Rebel Ti or Ti2 anyone have any experience with these? I used to know a lot more about cameras but have not had one for a while now.

Both are good cameras. I have the T1i and I love it, but to get the most out of a DSLR for fish photography you really need to get a speedlight also. Nikon makes good cameras too, their equivalent to the T1i is the D5000 which I didn't like as much (thus I chose canon).

what kind of flash would you suggest/do you use? The best shots i ever took involved me adding a lot of additional light from lamps and things I would place around the tank, is this common or does a good standalone flash remove these from the equation?

I personally really like the D5000. It has almost as good quality as the D90, and has a flip screen LED screen. It's FPS are a nice amount - I think 4.1 or something about that and it has tutorials and a "beginner" mode.

That's just my preferance :D
